Elias lived in Lancaster and other SC areas. He was born in 1801 and moved to Coweta County Ga around 1834 with Wife Barbara and his Children. He had several children in SC including Emaline and Marion. His father may be a Joab with Joab's father possibly Moab. Joab and Moab are shown in Lancaster 1800,1810 census. My uncles research indicates that Joab was Elias father. Another relative believes Elias father was a James. We are also related to Alexander Hamilton Stephens according to verbal family info...but have not found the tie in via one of Alex H. brothers or sisters. I would very much appreciate any help on Elias parents via any land records. newspapers, census, birth, death etc... Thanks in advance. Also interested in sharing info with other Stephens and (Stevens) surname SC researchers. Ed Martin (mother is Mary Lou Stephens Martin) --part0_920889527_boundary--

msnbc.com has an article on the LDS project. In a nutshell, they are experiencing some problems but plan to have it up by mid April. It will be a test and if they deem it a success, will add additional data. Ancestrial files (submitted GEDCOMs) will be first up. While no better than the submitter, they can offer some real help and clues. http://www.msnbc.com/news/246411.asp So keep checking. I will let you know when I get in. The info I have on LDS is they are having trouble with a piece of equipment. They should be on any day now but weren't yesterday. I can hardly wait. I went to the LDS Library Tuesday and they have a new update. I found a father for my John Ruby. Been looking for 25 years. Wanda
Would appreciate information on the following: 1830 Lancaster, S.C. Census Index, lists Zadok SUTTON, as HH. 1850 Flat Creek/Hickory Head Township, Lancaster Co., S.C., lists at Nr. 513, Mrs. N. Reynolds, age 70, M. SUTTON, age 50 F, S. SUTTON, age 21 F, J. SUTTON, age 19 M. 1850 Flat Creek/Hickory Head Township, Lancaster Co., S.C., lists at Nr. 514, E. SUTTON, age 22 M, C. SUTTON, age 20 F, and E. SUTTON, age 6/12 M. An 1860 source lists these folks in the same location, with the first names, of Edmond, Caroline, and Edward SUTTON. Thank you, David T. Sutton Hendersonville, N.C.
Laura Lee, I see you are on SCLancaster RootsWeb and that Harper is one of your names. I am not of that line but am trying to help a group who are researching the Hutchison family of Lancaster's Waxhaws and York's Indian Land. They have a Harper-Hutchison connection who left this area for Obion, Tenn back in the 1920s. I wonder if you happen to have that combination also and if so would be interested in contacting Al Hutchison. Louise Pettus

Is there anyone out there who is researching Indian Land surnames? Indian Land is made up of four communities: Belair, Pleasant Valley, Osceola and Barberville. The township is Indian Land, acquiring that name from the fact that before 1840 it was owned by the Catawba Indians. White people who lived in Indian Land at that time were leaseholders so their names are not in the Lancaster County deedbooks. My special interest (I am writing a book with lots of photographs on the Catawba Indian Land and the leasing system). I think I can more than identify 90 percent of the leaseholders in 1840 and perhaps half in 1800. For over 20 years I have collected information on these families (also on those in Fort Mill township in York County). I will be happy to share with anyone who had a family living in the Indian Land (this is one way for me to crosscheck the accuracy of my notes). I have some post-Civil War information but have not diligently searched for that era. Most of what I have is pre-Civil War. Some of the names of major occupants of the Catawba Indian Land are Doby, Massey, Ivy, Morrow, Gordon, Collins, Harris, Culp, Spratt, Coffey, Allen, Moore, Hagins, Tutt, Storey, Ezell, Sizer, Gillespie, Beckham, Miller, Perry, Johnston, Heath, etc. Now, many of these names are in other parts of Lancaster County but I am concentrating on the Indian Land and have very little, if any, information on those others. And the above list of names isn't exclusive. There are others and even if not leaseholders some of them sub-let from leaseholders. These sub-leasers are also sought. I repeat, Any of you with Indian Land ancestry? Louise Pettus

I am hoping that someone out there has a very complete cemetery survey for the White Bluff Baptist Church in Lancaster County, and will kindly do a lookup for me. I am looking for the surname of HILTON, and I understand that there are quite a few of them buried there from way back. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
