The CATOEs were scattered all thruout that area back then, tho, and you might find them in Kershaw, Darlington or Chesterfield County. NOW...........for the good news. I did find Nancy Lou on the 1880 Census. The family is listed in House #93, Family #94, in Buford Township, as follows: KNIGHT, Ervin 62 SC Reuel L. 44 wife Wm. J. 15 son Nancy L. 9 dau Andrew J. 8 son Eli Albert 6 son Martha A. 2 dau there were quite a few other KNIGHT families in that neighborhood at that time. His wife's name, Reuel, has a ? mark beside it in the copy of the census that I have, which would indicate that they had a hard time reading the original. Please let me know if this leads to anything, as I'd also like to add them to my files. Have a great Easter Sunday !! and our best to the rest of the family Cuzzin Bill
I see that on the 1850 census there is one Irvan Knight, age 34, farmer, with $4,000 of real estate, at dwelling #446. Also in the household is a woman (presumably wife) listed as C. E., age 24. The only child listed is J. J. E., a boy of age 11. I only have a few pages of a transcription of that census, and those I copied only because I was looking at the Johnson neighbors at dwellings # 447 and 450. ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com
Valleri, thank you for your response. Jessie Franklin Catoe was born Jan 6, 1868, he may be listed in the 1870 or 1880 with his parents. I have nothing on his family, no siblings nor parents. He married in about 1885, Nancy Lou Ella Josephine Knight, daughter of the Ervin Knight I am looking for also. Ervin most likely was born between 1840 and 1845. He married Nora Nancy Stogner. These families have eluded me for years. I guess I need to go to the Lancaster Library and spend a few weeks. Thank you for checking your census records. Aileen Norris
I just gotta say this, after analyzing the 1850 census for the umpteeth time, I would like to dig up the census taker and make him do it over. Dave, The Lancaster Census for 1850, doesn't always include the first names, only initials, how old would Jesse Catoe and Erivn Knight be? Valleri Kelley
Would someone mind checking on the 1850 Lancaster census for Jessie Franklin Catoe also Ervin Knight? Ervin Knight married Nora Nancy Stogner, they had six children. Jessie Franklin Catoe married a daughter of Ervin and Nora Knight her name was Nancy Lou Ella Josephine Knight. Thank you. Aileen Norris
We are in hopes of locating and identifying the parents of Margaret J. WILLIAMS [b. 30 Jan 1812, probably in SC - d. 4 Jul 1890 in the area of Westville, Kershaw, SC]. So far, we know nothing of her parents, siblings, ancestry or anything else. She married Nathaniel B. GAY [b. 12 Aug 1812 - d. 9 Apr 1891 in the area of Westville, Kershaw, SC]. This couple had twelve [12] known children, and were living in the Lancaster County area at the time of the 1850 Census. Any help with identifying Margaret J. WILLIAMS and her family would be greatly appreciated. Bill Hughes [email protected]
Would some kind soul who has the 1850 Census, please check for Bethany GAY? She may have been a widow by then, or could possilby have still been married. I don't know when her husband died or what his first name was. She would have been over 60 years of age by then, at the least, as she had a daughter born about 1806, also named Bethany GAY. If found, "please" give me all the available info on her from each of the categories. She was "possibly" the mother of my Nathaniel B. GAY, who was born in 1812. Thank you very much for any help. This site has a declaration for RW pension papers for William CRYE, husband of Sarah HAGINS (possible dau. of Col. Wm. Hagins). William and Sarah lived in McMinn Co. TN. The site also includes information regarding Sarah's application for a pension. Mecklenberg Co., Capt. William Hagan, Capt John William Hagan, and Col. Martin are mentioned. The papers are under the CRYE name when you enter the site. Adrienne <http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncrevwar/ncrevwar.htm>
