    1. Re: [SCLANCAS] John Montgomery
    2. Frances Montgomery
    3. Tracey, I have a Hugh Montgomery (no birth date) who married Annie Underwood Battle ( b. 1799 NC). His children were Minerva, Jane, Elvira, William B., Nancy Bronetta, and Thomas Evans. Thomas Evans was my great grandfather. Thomas was born in Mississippi after the family had lived in Tennessee for a while. I think the family stayed in South Carolina until after 1815. A big problem with the Montgomery family is that we use the same names over and over. In every generation there will be a James, John, William, Thomas, Alexander, and a Hugh. My earliest ancestor in this country was Robert Montgomery (b. 1765 SC). He was the youngest of nine (!) brothers so I'll bet that there are lots of John Montgomerys and that several are kin to me. If you find any clues, I would be delighted to hear about them. I don't know the names of Robert's parents or any of the brothers, so I am at a brick wall. 3. Tracey, I don't have access to the census, but I have a John Montgomery who was probably in Lancaster County in the early 19th century. He is the son of Robert Montgomery (b.1765 SC) and Rebecca Coffee (b. 1774 SC). I don't have a birth date for him, but he had siblings born in 1804, 1808, and 1815. He is supposed to have married a woman named "Aggie". I have no record of any children he might have had. This John is the brother of my great, great grandfather, Hugh Montgomery. I would love to hear what info you have on your John.
