Queries, sources and family reports welcome! > (No GEDCOMS or ATTACHMENTS to email please!) Hello Deanna, Yes, I would dearly love to find my branch of Montgomerys in Portsmouth, OHio. I am looking for info on the WILLIAM H. H. MONTGOMERY who was born 1856, where? ma.MARY EMMA ROSS. He died at age 47, cause of death unknown. Occupation: Bricklayer, worked in the local brickyard. They had 6 children, one of them, Kathleen Montgomery ma. Chancy Ray Suffron, who owned a barber shop in Portsmouth. They, Kate and Chancy and one child,2 1/2 yrs. died within hours of each other and are buried all in one grave in Greenlawn Cemetery. My father, Roger, the only survivor was only 7 yrs. old and had to be raised by aunt and uncle living in the Cincinnati area. WILLIAM AND EMMA MONTGOMERY had other children, Elva and Elza, twins, Lillian Mae, Anna (dec.as a child), Harry(dec. at age 18). According to the 1900 census, Ohio, City of Portsmouth (Wayne Township)states William was born in ohio. Then a very shot obituary in the local paper states resedence was 465 East 6th St. Stated hw was well known in the city and was a brick layer by trade. Born Mar.13, 1856 and for past 15 yrs had been a resident of the city. Funeral took place at he Christian Church conducted by Rev. G.P. Taubman, pastor. I am trying to find related descendents and exchange information. I would like to find out where William was born and who were his parents. I am anxious to trace my Montgomery line back to Europe, if possible. There are still two original Montgomery's of this line still living besides myself, one in Wheelersburg and one in Fremont, CA. They are quite elderly but have given me some information but they do not have the answers to my questions mentioned here. Montgomery's are related to the Ross's also of Portsmouth. I have been told by a Ross cousin in Portsmouth that somehow the Montgomery family have a connection to the Sly family. Any help would be appreciated. Do you happen to know Betsy in the genealogical section of the Portsmouth Library. I have met her and she is most helpful. The last time we were there was 2 yrs ago but when you are traveling time is limited. I needed more time to find local people, who may have some clue or remember their grandparents stories. Many thanks again. If I have any information that may help someone else on these lines, I would be most willing to help them out with what I have. I can continue my branch on this line to the present. Happy hunting! Connie Backers, No. Calif.
