    3. Seeking further information on Isaac DeVoss who died 5 Sept, 1842, in PIKE COUNTY, OHIO, and who married Delilah DeLong in 1835, not sure of where, as well as information on any of their children. Am the great-great-grandson of a Solmon S. DeVoss, who with his brother Allen, moved to from Ohio to Tippecanoe County, Indiana in the 1840s and are believed by some to have descended from an Isaac DeVoss of Ohio, county unknown. We are wondering if this is the same ISAAC DE VOSS of PIKE COUNTY. Any information would be appreciated and will share what little information we have. Thank you for your courtesy and cooperation in this regard. Sincerely, Robert Campbell of Belmont Shore, Long Beach, California, DeVoss descendant. BlmtShore@aol.com

    3. I am searhing for any information on the children of William GUTHREY and Cathering THEOBALD. William and Catherine were likely married in Greene County, Pennsylvania. They moved to Pike County, Ohio in the mid to late 1790's. They apparently had six children and I would like to know more about these children. I look forward to hearing from anyone who may have any information at all. I have much information on William's ancestors and am willing to share it. Thanks

    3. My name is Diane Crabtree and I am researching the Crabtree name. I have traced my husband's family. My husband's grandfather was William Henry Crabtree born April 23, 1907 in Howell County, Mo the son of William Edward Crabtree b. April 4, ?(I don't know, I have dates from 1872 to 1879)in Jackson County, Ohio and Lottie Jane Green. William Edward is the son of Jasper L. 1. LEMON Obits
    2. Carol Montrose
    3. You might try writing to the Chillicothe Public Library. I know they have an obit file and if you send copy costs and SASE, I'm sure they'd copy them for you if you can't find someone here to help you. They have them on 3x5 cards, so copy costs would be minimal. I live about an hour away, but let me know if you don't get them some other way, maybe I can stop when I go to visit the graves south of there this year. Good hunting! Carol

    3. If you can't find someone here to do the look up for you, you might try writing to the Chillicothe Library, they do have an obit index (seems like maybe 3x5 cards w/ obit on, but it's been a while since I've been there. Don't forget to send copy costs and SASE (I think their copiers charge a quarter and they should be able to put several on the same page) Good hunting!! Carol

    1. Dear Ancestor (Poem)
    2. WAM
    3. Dear Ancestor Your tombstone stands among the rest; Neglected and alone. The name and date are chiseled out On polished, marbled stone. It reaches out to all who care It is too late to mourn. You did not know that I exist You died and I was born. Yet each of us are cells of you In flesh, in blood, in bone. Our blood contracts and beats a pulse Entirely not our own. Dear Ancestor, the place you filled One hundred years ago Spreads out among the ones you left Who would have loved you so. I wonder if you lived and loved, I wonder if you knew That someday I would find this spot, And come to visit you. Author Unknown I really enjoyed this poem as I just found and visited the grave of my gggggrandfather in Pike County. He was born in 1771. Died 1832. Barb

    1. BROWN Family from Chillicothe
    2. Carol Montrose
    3. Have you done the later census work for your BROWNS? The birth place should be listed of each child in the household as you're aware I'm sure. Have you found copies of their death records and obits? Often times clues are found there as well as in marriage license applications. >From your message, I thought maybe these might be something you'd want to work on to possibly find more clues to your Ohio research. Were any of them in the military service? Pension and military records often contain a wealth of information.. .....just a few thoughts. Happy Hunting! Carol

    3. I am trying to locate my gg-grandparents. I was informed this past weekend that my g-grandfather was born in the Chillicothe area by an eighty-two year old cousin of my mother's that I just located. This is quite an awakening since I have been searching for two years in the Mississippi-Alabama area. The story goes that William Thomas Brown born 13 Jun 1853 and a brother by the name George left Ohio and settled in the Madison County, MS area. From an old school project by my oldest sister I have his parents as Henry Brown and Mary _____. Any information on this set of Brown's would be greatly appreciated or if anyone doesn't mind checking the 1860 Ross County census for a Henry Brown with wife Mary and sons (I don't know if this is the only two children) - George and William Thomas I would be more than thankful. LINDA

    3. Hello, I just wanted subscribers to know that I'm not available to do lookups. I live in Virginia, and I don't have access to Ohio records. I have answered a couple of queries, only because I had the name available in some of my files. Sorry I can't help those that have recently asked. Try the lookup volunteers that are available in most counties of Ohio... and good luck in your continued research. Marilyn Phipps email: jcp0001@erols.com

    3. Hi Mary, I checked on your surname HISE (VAN HISE, VOORHISE), and although there were some VOORHEES, VOORHIES, VORHESS, VORHIS surnames in the Portsmouth area of Scioto Co; 1880 Census...there was no Levi HISE mentioned. However, I did find one Levi HISE in the 1850 Illinois Census, Fulton Co. (Centre), pg #304. Also, I found one Levi HISE in the 1860 Pennsylvania Census, York Co, (Chanceford Twp) pg #416. This sounds like your ancestor!!! Good luck in your continued search. Marilyn Phipps email: jcp0001@erols.com
