Dear Carol, The Chillicothe library sent me microfilmed copied marriage records for Anna Darling married to John Immett, also marriage records for Jessie Darling and Catherine Hurls, and marriage records for Charles A. Spangler and Burdrudex Romain Darling, also Charles Darling and Ella Sheets. They also sent me microfilmed copies of probate court birth records on my ancestors. These are all from the Chillicothe library. The lady who works there is very nice and professional, I wouldn't hesitate to ask her again. It was a surprise to get this packet of papers from the library, but they too have some of this information. Her name is Vicky Frey. Hey, I have been saving your e-mails and respect your insight and will try all your avenues too, you recommended. Thank you for your input, and I will keep reading your post enthusiastically. Judy Lee Researching Steele, Steel, Hart, Barnhart, Darling, Peters Penwell, and more P.s. I already checked the 1870, 1880, and 1890 civil war census. Judy, the marriage records for that time frame (1890's and before) were usually no more than what you have except for the person who conducted the ceremony. Sorry. I know if you write to Probate Court, Ross Co. Courthouse, Chillicothe, Oh they'll send the certificates.. probably $2-3 per copy for certified, 25cents to $2-3 for uncertified. Maybe the census for 1880 & 1900 would give you the clues you need? If they died in Ohio after 1908 their death certificates would be worth looking at too. Good hunting! Carol
I am searching for information about John J. MOORE as listed on the 1850 census in Porter TWP. Also one listed on the 1850 census in the Clinton TWP. One of these tow men had a son, John Wesley Moore b. January 1848. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks, WCM
Hello, Is anybody know the WHEELER name, or researching it? It might be the key to solving my mystery concerning great-grandmother. Especially JOHN WHEELER, there were more than one. MARRIAGES WHEELER, JOHN BARNHART, EMARIA JUL 25 1878 DARLING, WILLIAM HART, ELMYRA MAY 2 1884 BROWN, GEORGE J HART, AGNES MAR 2 1891 NOTE 7 NOTE 7: "HER FATHER BEING DEAD HER MOTHER ELMIRA DARLING GIVES CONSENT." RITTINGER, CHARLES (22) WHEELER, ALMIRA T. (22) FEB 21 1894 ????? (the last entry might have no bearing, I just felt it was kind coincidental, of the brides name), all the entries above could very possibly be, I hope. I feel that I am close to figuring this out, just need to obtain the marriage papers from Chillicothe or write for the certificates. If anyone lives close to library, I would pay you, if you could do me this favor. Thanks to anyone who has read my letters, Judy aka dreamer

In my Darling letter, I wrote the final paragraph as saying that William Hart had a child with Cynthia Cook, when in fact it was David Hart. I do not know the connection of the Cook to the Darling living in the Wheeler household in 1870? Thanks, Judy

I am looking for the descendants of John B. Adkins b. Dec. 1, 1881 and d. Sept. 1968 in Lucasville, Ohio. He is the son of Joe. K. Adkins b. 1840 and Margaret ? b. 1843. His siblings are: D.F. Adkins b. 1861, J.O. Adkins b. 1864, Mary Adkins b. 1867, Allie Mander b. 1868, Delila Adkins b. 1869, Howard B. Adkins b. 1871, Andrew Adkins b. 1875, Martha L. Adkins b. 1879, Marion Adkins b. 1886-moved to Rushville, Indiana area. Allie Mander Adkins is my great grandfather. He married Lourannie Wages and had the following children: Maudy b. 1900 m. Floyd Rose, Marion Adkins b. 1901-moved to Oregon, Wiley Adkins b. 1903-moved to Hardin County, Ohio, Nona Adkins b. 1906 m. Hugh Blevins and later Manford Blevins, Earl Adkins and Pearl Adkins (twins) b. 1910. Lourannie died shortly after having the twins. Wiley Adkins, my grandfather, was born in Carter Co., Ky. I don't know how long the family lived there. Allie Mander Adkins is buried in Greenup Co., Ky. I believe that Maudy Adkins Rose and Nona Adkins Blevins are buried there also. My father, Corbit Adkins, sent several letters to several Adkins families listed in the directory inquiring about his great uncle John b. Adkins, but didn't get a single response. We are hoping that we can get some information thru this digest. If anyone has any information, please contact me, Karen Adkins Scott. My e-mail is garykaren@udata.com. Thanks so much for your time! Have made great progress on Grandma STEELES' side. Hey distant cousin, GARY STEELE, write me, or let me know if its o.k. to call you long distance. thanks. I am almost sure since you gave me your phone #, but did not get a response from my last e-mail, and do not want to bother you if you do not want to be bothered. I will call if you let me know for sure it is o.k. Thanks a million. Sincerely, Judy Lee Fry Nichols aka dreamer p.s. My grandma was Jessie May Steele Darling.
All The Ohio Historical Society also has a searchable index online for death certificates for the years 1913 through 1927 and 1933 through 1937. Copies are $3 if you find your subject. See http://www.ohiohistory.org/dindex/search.cfm for more information. Ed Locker
I won't belabor this issue but the book by Everton: The Handy Book for Genealogists does a pretty good job about identifying the county records that are available as well as info on possible fires in the courthouses and the amount of records destroyed/or saved. It also tells you which office contains particular records and gives the address for the courthouses. Be advised: the area codes for phone numbers as Ohio has added several new ones. Around Dayton has been changed to 937, (not in Franklin Co.) the surrounding areas in the middle of the state to 740 and n.e. 330 (not sure about that one though) Good hunting! Carol
