    1. ZIMMERMAN & RINELY
    2. Ancestors Emily E. ZIMMERMAN m Henry RINELY in Ross Co. They owned property down Infirmary Road across the road from the Fairgrounds. I seem to remember that Emily's parents came from MD. Were they Andrew and M. Dresbach ZIMMERMAN? Did Emily have a brother Obadiah? I have a copy of the will from the Archives in Chillicothe. I have found another RINELY in Pike County - Peter RINELY. Were Henry and Peter siblings, related at all? Anyone with knowledge about these two families - please correspond. Related families: MACE, RIDGWAY Thanks, Susan Noel

    1. A Mortality Schedule Example
    2. Darrell L. Smith
    3. A Mortality Schedule Example -- Mortality schedules were recorded with each US Federal Census. This is why they are available in years like 1850, 1860, etc. One of the most noticable differences between mortality schedules and death record vitals from probate court are precinct and household information. To give you a better idea how this works, I'll use the 1870 Greenup County, KY Census and Mortality Schedule to give you both a visual and online example. If an individual died between 1 Jul 1869 and 30 June 1870 before and after the 1st of the year of the census, they should appear in the Mortality Schedule for that Census year. Connect to http://www.getaway.net/dsmith/mortality/1870/greenup.htm as an example. This is the 1870 Greenup Co., KY Mortality Schedule. Scroll down to the FIELDING surname and note that this family had a bad 1869-1870 year! You can be assured that each FIELDING is part of the same household since they all are listed from Precinct 5, Household 145 For those of you who don't want to make the connection, the deceased family members include John, age 15, died Oct 1869 of inflam of bowels; Maggie, age 4, died Feb 1870 of fever; and Owen, age 43, died Dec 1869 as he was thrown from a handcar on the RR. To find the associated family in the 1870 Greenup County, KY Census, you would jump to Precinct 5 and to household 145. Do that now by going to http://www.getaway.net/dsmith/vanbibber/1870grco.html. This is the 1870 Greenup Co., KY Census online (may take a few minutes to load as it's nearly 1 MB of text). Once again for those that don't want to bother with the connections, I'll list the output below. Household 147/145 FIELDING Margaret, 42 Patrick, 20 Mary, 22 James, 11 Henry, 13 Fannie, 09 You should note that Margaret is listed as the head of household and that Patrick is her son. If you hadn't already consulted with the Mortality Schedule, you would probably be wondering things like * Who is/was Margaret's husband * Why isn't he listed as the head of household * Who (if any) where children missing in ages between 20 and 13? The Mortality Schedule would answer all these questions. Thanks, Darrell Smith P.S. I only used the Fielding example because it was a good one. I do not have additional information on this family line. <>< <>< <>< <>< <>< Darrell L. Smith dsmith@mis.net

    1. Re: Gen. Question, Years 1860 and 1890
    2. There was a census for 1860, however many of the county lines changed between 1860 and 1870 post war. So you may have trouble finding relatives because the countiy lines changed - not because they moved. The 1890 census was mostly destroyed in a fire in 1921. What wasn't destroyed by the fire itself had severe water damage. There is very little of it left at all. The 1890 veteran's census was taken for statistical purposes at first, but since the original census is gone, most rely on it to locate families during that year. The 1890 census lists the veteran if they were still living, gives their mailing address city/state, and lists and present medical conditions related to military service. If the veteran is not living it often lists the widow who received the pension-if they are still living. Look in the files/microfilm for the location that the veteran enlisted - not their 1890 location. jk

    3. According to the Handy Book for Genealogists, the mortality schedules usually cover (if they're available) 1850, 1860, 1880 and are supposed to include anyone who died 1 July, to 30 June before & after the 1st of the year of the census. i.e. 1 July 1859-30 June, 1860 Not all survived and not all are published. Hope this helps Carol ----------

    1. Census Records
    2. Ralph Hayes
    3. Judy Lee, A census was conducted in the United States every 10 years beginning in 1790. Except for a few rolls, the 1890 census was destroyed by fire. Someone may check me if I am wrong but the mortality index is a list of persons who died the year before the census was taken. 2. Judy Lee Nichols
    3. I was told that there wasen't any censuses done in these 2 decades, 1860 & 1890. 1890, because they did the Civil war one then. I am pretty sure for this one. Was there one that I am not aware of done in 1860, statewide? Or a special one for Ross County, maybe bookform. Would anyone have access to this information. Also, this might sound dumb, but what is a mortality index, I suppose, its a list of all people who lived and gone, and I think there is one on Ohio or maybe a county for the period of 1860. Well anyway, the reason I am asking, is I thought I seen one on Ohio, that costs money to buy, and I am one who believes genealogy should be free. or at least capped at a certain level. I bought the familytreemaker long time ago, and returned it because I thought it costs too much, then I asked for one for x-mas and got it, and for a long time couldn't find anything on it, til recently, of some ancestors in SHelby county, but you know, now they got bundles 8-12 and 13 thr 17, for 59.95 each; I haven't bought , so thats more money to boot, if you want to access these, plus all the subscribtion things on net. I suppose some libraries loan genalogy cds, but ours doesn't in Logan county. Would anyone have access to this info, the mortality index question, before I got sidetracked. ha. ha.. I graciously thank you. Judy Lee Fry-Nichols Good day, y'all

    3. On the genealogical hotspot website for Ross County, the marriage records go up to 1850. I have a book for 1876-1900 for marriages in Ross County. NEED MARRIAGE RECORD BETWEEN 1850 AND 1876. I need someone to please lookup William Darling married to a Hannah Kidney, Richmondale/Ross. She had a child Alvin Darling who only lived a month. She passed away 1-27-1876 with Puerperal Fever according to records. She would have been 18. They would have married between 1850 and 1876. Is there records for this timeframe. It might help solve a mystery. I have been figuring WILLIAM DARLING to have been born circa 1866, but it would have to been earlier, if he married Hannah Kidney. Any help appreciated. Thanks, Judy Lee Fry Nichols I am planning on posting all my information on all these names and more on the internet, I have almost 200 people on FAMILYTREEMAKER.
