Need some help from Ross County. I am researching my g.g. grandfather, a JAMES WILSON. He married a Mary Fickle. We are pretty sure he had at least one son prior to 1850. In 1850 he was killed in a steamboat explosion, leaving Mary who was pregnant with JOSHUA WILSON at the time. She remarried in 1857 to a John H. Madden, moving to Iowa. The family bible states that the older boy (s) left for the Civil War and never returned. Joshua returned to Ohio after grown and settled in Defiance. He was my g. grandfather. According to our records, JAMES WILSON is buried in Chillicothe. I know there were early James Wilsons in Ross County, just can't seem to connect up to our James. What cemetaries are in Ross County for that time frame? Is there a historical museum? What newspapers were published at the time? Surely there would have been an article in 1850 about a local man who died in a steamboat explosion. Are the early 1800 birth records for Ross County at the county le! vel, or the state? Wish I could just drive there and check it out myself, but I can't. I have all kinds of leads, but they seem to be going nowhere -- been working on this for years. Any help that anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated. Mary
There were two John Haltermans in Jackson/Scioto/Pike Cos. before 1830. One was my ancestor b. ca. 1800. The other was older and I have not been able to identify him. My John married Sarah Crabtree in 1829 and was probably killed in the Mexican War in 1849. I think the older John was the son of Jacob of Shenandoah but do not have a shred of proof. Does anyone have any info on either of these people? Thanx
Is there anyone in Scioto Co. who does look ups?

I would appreciate any information anyone might have on SUSANNA (SUSAN) GREEN, LAIRS/ZAIRS, RICHARDS. SUSANNA was born about 1816 in (Lawrence Co.?) Ohio. She was thought to have married first (name not known) Zairs or Lairs. She married second THOMAS RICHARDS 18, June 1846 Scioto Co., Ohio. The marriage record has her name as Zairs but this has been disputed and some say the name was actually Lairs. Susanna would have been about 30yrs. at the time of her second marriage --- was there children from the first marriage???? There are Green's in Lawrence Co., Ohio does she fit into some genealogy from that line? Thomas Richards and Susanna lived in the area of Schultz Creek and Springville in Greenup Co., Kentucky. THANK-YOU, Carleene Roe

http://www.ohiohistory.org/dindex/search.cfm Researchers, I haven't seen anyone talk about this, sorry if you have, about the Ohio Death Certificates at the Ohio Historical Society Site is now completed in full from 1913-1937. I would like to add when looking for anyone on this site I would use the option for all counties. I have found over 25% of the counties are mispelled and if you look under just one county, you may not find your person. Also, be carefull of a few of the names being mispelled, which I've had a few of mine mispelled. Have a good week, Mark ^ ^ . . I am searching for information on Edward A. Dressel and Marcella A Dressel that lived in the Portsmouth, Ohio area in the 1930's. The names of these two Dressel's appear on the divorce decree of a relative that I am in search of. Mr. Dressel was a sales manager with Ideal Milk Company and he resided at 2802 Gilbert Avenue in Portsmouth. The Dressel's may be able to answer the mystery of what happened to this missing relative. Temporary custody of a small child in this divorce case was granted to the Dressel's. If you have any information that can help lead to the Dressel's please contact me. Debi Foster Catlettsburg, KY
