Hi Folks: Is there anyone out there that has access to the library at Chillicothe Ohio. I understand they have death records from 1867 past 1900 in book form , on microfilm and the actual records at the Old Jail . Could anyone look up my G Uncle Charles Gross or Charles Wallrodt born 1847 and died about 1880. I would like the date and the cause of death. Family history indicates he died of war wounds he suffered in the Civil War. I believe he is buried in an unmarked grave in Edwards Farm Cemetery in Franklin Twp. Charles was born Charles Gross, his father died and his mother married Fredrick Wallrodt. Some relatives say Fred adopted Charles and his two sisters. Not certain if there was a name change. Have been unable to determine if he was in fact a soldier in the Civil War, most of the info. I have is from a note on some family genealogy my Grandmother left behind, What she said would have been heresay since she didn't marry into the family until 1896. A paragraph in the Cemetery records at the library indicates a Civil War soldier Crossie or Crozie Waldoldt(sic) is buried in Edwards Farm Cemetery. This was from the memory of the wife of a veteran of the war who placed a flag on a grave in Edwards Cem. when he was alive. I think this may be the soldier I am looking for. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Anyone who can help me solve this problem will certainly make my day. John W. Hello: I am researching the Brofft, Gates, Johns (Jones) families that settled in the Ross County areas of Ohio about 1850s. I am particularly interested in the families of Franz Brofft (b. Aug 19 1829 in Frankfort am Main Germany d. 1904 Ross County), and wife Catherine Henkelmann (b. 1828 Frankfurt; married 1855, d. Feb 12 1875 age 47 in Ross County, OH) Also; Heinrich Wilhelm JOHNS (later changed to JONES) born 1804 in Hanover Germany and his wife Melsena (last name unknown) who married abt 1834 in Springfield Twp Ross County. All died in Ross County. Melsena died in 1877 at the age of 66. She was born Jul 14 1811 in Hanover Germany. The sons and daughters moved west thru Indiana to KS in late 1860's. WOuld like to know where they lived when in OH and if anyone has knowledge of there destination? A Mary GATES married a Lewis (Lew) JOHNS; and Laura JOHNS (sister of Lew above) married a Jim GATES. A Hannah JOHNS married a cousin to Franz BROFFT named Franz Rudolph BROFFT. A son of Hannah JOHNS & F.Rudolph BROFFT named Henry married another GATES, Margaret Amanda but I do not know if she is related to the GATES above. Henry drowned in the Arkansas River (assumed to be in KS) but cannot find a death record for him. Will exchange information with anyone researching these families. Thanks for your time and attention. Good Morning Everyone, I am searching for information on the family of Levi and Almeda Arnot Canterbury. They were originally from Monroe County WV and settled first in Lawrence County, OH and later moved to Gallia County, OH. Levi was born c 1797, married 30 April 1816 in Monroe Co. WV to Almeda Arnot, d/o Henry and Elizabeth Truesdale Arnot. On the 1840 Gallia County OH Census there are listed the following children in the household. 2 Males under 5: 1 Male 10-15: 1 Male 15-20: 1 Male 40-50 2 Females 5-10: 1 Female 10-15: 1 Female 15-20 and 1 Female 30-40 In my research, I have been able to identify 5 of Levi and Almeda's children; John, b 1817; Levi, Jr, b 1835; Andrew, b 1839; Mary #, b 1842 and Eveline, b 1844. I am at a total loss as to who the other children are that are mentioned in the 1840 census. John Canterbury, b 1817 was already married prior to 1840 census. The 2 males under 5 are Levi, Jr and Andrew. Male 40-50 is Levi, Sr. Female 30-40 is Almeda. Would dearly appreciate any help that anyone can give me on this family. Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks, Cathy

I am looking for information on my great great grandmother, Melcena GARRETT and her ancestors. The information I have now that I got from another researcher is that Melcena was born in 1820 in Virginia. She married Benjamin RAY on July 1, 1841 in Lawrence County, OH. Here father was Leroy GARRETT, born abt. 1799. He was married on 4 April 1819 to Elizabeth ALLISON in Lawrence County, OH. Leroy died on 4 July 1832. Elizabeth died on 6 December 1878. According to the information I have, Leroys parents were Joseph GARRETT and Charlotte BOLT. Melcenas daughter, Laura L., my great grandmother, was born abt. 1871 (making Melcena fairly old at the time of her birth) in Wayne County, WV. Laura married George H. Hi, folks... I just subbed. I have reason to believe that the Scioto branch of Stockham, rooted in Joseph b. bef. 1814 arises this way, and I want everyone's help... George Stockham of Bucks County, PA, who had a will 1814, mentioned an illegitimate child, to whom he left some money in his death-bed will. Joseph, born from Mary Bedford, of Ohio. I find a Joseph Bedford and a Mary Bedford in Hamilton Co., OH, in the 1850 Census, but nowhere else. I maintain that she died, and he took the name of Joseph Stockham, finding his way to Scioto. I think he was a "surprise package" from George having a stint in the War of 1812... not such an unusual occurrence. Can anyone help a Virginian from New Jersey with Pennsylvania relatives find out this Ohio information? !:O> Vince -- *===========================================================================* *Vincent E.
