There is now a geographical DNA Project for the Georgetown District of South Carolina. The Georgetown District is now the counties of Horry, Georgetown, Williamsburg, Marion, Dillon, and the eastern half of Florence. Due to the loss of so many of the early records in these areas, genealogy can often be difficult. There were many families with the same or similar surnames and no evidence of their relationship. DNA testing can be a valuable tool for family history. Please read the handout on the HCHS website created by Dr. John Hybert Williamson of Davidson, NC for information on DNA.
