Gladys Rhucile Huggins Strickland, 91, a loving mother and the widow of Rufus (Buck) Strickland, was at home with her family when she went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 22, 2010 at 4:08 p.m. She was born on February 25, 1919 in Horry County, daughter of the late George C. and Libby Dew Huggins. She graduated from Floyds High School as class salutatorian in 1936. She retired from Sara Lee Hosiery in Marion, and was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church and the Church's WMU. She was an avid reader and loved flower gardening, sewing, and cooking. She was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Strickland; a grandson, Bryan Strickland; a great-granddaughter Melissa Mincey; three brothers, James, Howard, and Herman Huggins; a sister, Mildred Richardson; and three deceased child siblings. She is survived by a son, Roger Wayne (Betty) Strickland of Little River; a daughter, Sallie Lucille Seaboch of Myrtle Beach; three brothers, Larry, Stoney, and J.E. (Carol) Huggins; and a sister, Joan (Carl) Elliott; six grandchildren, Edward Mincey, Sheri Blakley, Randy Strickland, Lori Lee, Summer Shaver, and Linda Bertucci; thirteen great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Pleasant View Baptist Church, 13403 Highway 19, Nichols, SC 29581; to Mercy Hospice and Palliative Care, P.O. Box 50640, Myrtle Beach, SC 29579; or to your local Humane Society. The family will receive friends Sunday, October 24, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Meares Funeral Home of Mullins. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 25, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Pleasant View Baptist Church of Pleasant View Community with the Reverend John Forbes officiating.
