CONWAY - Gertie Alford Dix, 95, died Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at Mullins Nursing Center. She was born December 17, 1914 in Horry County, a daughter of the late James Fred and Laura Allen Alford. In additions to her parents, she was also pre-deceased by her husband, Willard Dix; two sons, Billy and Roger Dix; one grandson, Jack Dix; two brothers, Buddy and Donnie Alford and one sister, Doris Cooper. Gertie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother, her family meant everything to her. She enjoyed meeting and helping others. Gertie loved quilting, sewing and working with her hands. Mrs. Dix is survived by one son, Eugene "Gene" Dix of Conway; one daughter, Linda Dix Collins (Edward) of Conway; two sisters, Geraldine Sellers of Conway and Letha Graham of Marion; a special cousin, Mary Powell; six grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren and many other family and friends who will miss her. The family received friends at Watson Funeral Services from 6:00 pm till 8:00 pm Friday, August 13, 2010. Funeral Services will be held 2pm Saturday, August 14, 2010 at Watson Funeral Services Chapel with Rev. Glen Lane and Rev. Mike Gerald officiating. Burial will follow at Pisgah Methodist Church Cemetery.
