Miss Ruby Hardee, age 80, of Highway 905 South, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, August 1, 2010. She was born July 25, 1930 in Longs, a daughter of the late William Franklin Hardee and the late Isla Lee Hardee Matthews. She was the stepdaughter of the late Robert J. Matthews. Miss Hardee graduated from Loris High School and attended Horry - Georgetown Technical College. She was an active member of Buck Creek Baptist Church and was previously a member of North Conway Baptist Church for 44 years where she was actively involved in the choir, a Sunday school teacher, and served on various committees. Miss Hardee was the past president and member of the Conway Business and Professional Women's Club, served as past chairman and member of the Horry County Commission of Alcohol and Drug Abuse, served on the Board of the American Heart Association, a volunteer for the American Red Cross and was also involved in many other local civic and charity organizations and fund raisers. She was also a member of the National Association of Federal and Retired Employees after serving 34 years with the Selective Service System and the Social Security Administration in Conway. Miss Hardee is survived by five sisters, Willie H. Carter of Longs, Opal H. Allen of Melbourne, Fla., Ernestine H. Stone of Irmo, Fannie Rabon and her husband, Hinson, of Longs, Linda M. Campbell and her husband, Ravenell, of Florence; two brothers, Billy J. Matthews, Sr. and his wife, Vickie, and Tommy Matthews and his wife, Pat, all of Longs; a sister-in-law, Daisy Matthews of West Palm Beach, Fla.; 13 nieces and nephews; 25 great nieces and nephews; and 8 great-great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one brother, Conrad Matthews and one niece, Cindi Matthews. The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 3, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Ward Funeral Home in Loris and at other times at the residence of the brother: Billy J. Matthews, Sr. and the nephew: Billy J. Matthews, Jr. A service of Worship, Praise, and Thanksgiving will be held Wednesday morning, August 4, 2010 at 11 a.m. from the Buck Creek Baptist Church with Pastor Larry Allen and Dr. Jeffrey Gaskins officiating. Burial will follow in the Bellamy Cemetery.
