Sebron Yates Hood, Jr., 79, passed away Friday, December 17, 2010, at Grand Strand Medical Center. Sebron was born and raised in Matthews, N.C., to the late Sebron Yates and Catherine McLeod Hood. At a young age, he showed a keen interest in music, especially the piano, which he began playing for The Matthews Baptist Church while in high school. After graduating from Matthews High School in 1949, he received his Bachelor's Degree in Music from Erskine College in 1953. He then furthered his studies at Union Theological Seminary in New York, N.Y., and earned a Masters Degree in Sacred Music in 1955, while studying organ under Vernon de Tar. From 1955 to 1965 he served as the first full-time organist and choirmaster at Sardis Presbyterian Church in Charlotte. Upon moving to Myrtle Beach, he was employed by Peoples National Bank, C&S National Bank and Bankers Trust. After retiring from banking, he was employed as a real estate paralegal and was Secretary of Horry Land and Improvement Company, all the while, still faithfully serving as organist and choirmaster for Trinity Episcopal Church from 1967 until his retirement in 1992. He was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church, he was a founding member and past president of the Community Concert Association of Myrtle Beach, a past president of the Charlotte Chapter of the American Guild of Organists; a past member of The Oratorio Singers of Charlotte and a member of the Sons of the America Revolution. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Belle Miller Spivey Hood; daughter, Harriette Hood Louis and husband, Joseph, of Conway; son, Sebron Yates Hood, III and wife, Kimberly of Plano, Texas; son C. A. Spivey Hood and wife, Ashley, of Conway; and seven grandchildren, Miller Catherine Howard and husband, Boggs, Anne Caroline Bethea, Sarah McLeod Hood, Sebron Yates Hood, IV, Helen Elizabeth Hood, Meagan Alexandra Hood, and Emmelyn Edwards Hood; a brother William B. Hood and wife, Gail, of Myrtle Beach; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 20, 2010, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Myrtle Beach with the Reverend Robert Sturdy and the Reverend Iain Boyd officiating. The family will receive visitors after the service in the Parish Hall. Interment will be held at 3 p.m. at Lakeside Cemetery in Conway.
