CONWAY - Rev. Gary R. "Jerry" Harrelson, age 70, of Woodcreek Lane died Thursday at McLeod Regional Medical Center following an illness. Rev. Harrelson was born in Robeson County, NC, a son of the late Sam Harold and Esta Mae Herring Harrelson. Prior to retirement, Rev. Harrelson had served as pastor of Spring Hill Baptist Church in Cottageville, SC, Corinth Baptist Church in Oxford, NC, Salem Baptist Church in Aynor, SC, and Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Florence, SC. He also served as interim pastor of North Mullins Baptist Church in Mullins, SC, Cane Branch Baptist Church in Loris, SC, Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Loris, SC and Aynor First Baptist Church in Aynor, SC. Rev. Harrelson was a member of Juniper Bay Baptist Church. He was a US Army veteran. Rev. Harrelson was a graduate of the Baptist College at Charleston in Charleston, SC and Southeastern Seminary in Wake Forest, NC. He was a member of Graddy Masonic Lodge in Aynor, SC and was a former member of the Aynor Lion's Club. Surviving are: his wife, Vonceil "Bonnie" Martin Harrelson of Conway; one son, Ronald Harrelson and his wife Ann Marie of Conway; one daughter, Angie Harrelson Gattis and her husband Jamie of Conway; four grandchildren, Gentry Logan Gattis, Peyton Lee Gattis, Nicholas Ethan Harrelson, and Brody David Harrelson; one great grandchild, Sawyer Ryland Cannon. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday from Juniper Bay Baptist Church with Rev. Rodney Hord, Rev. Ray Truett, and Rev. Duane Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery directed by Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 until 8:00 PM Saturday.
