BRITTON'S NECK - Thomas Jefferson Altman, Jr., 62 of Britton's Neck died Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at Carolinas Hospital System. He was born March 16, 1948 in Marion County. Mr. Altman is remembered as a loving son, brother, uncle and "Poppy Thomas". He is survived by a special friend, Nisa Bacchus; a sister, Judy Douglas and her husband (Billy) of Tabor City, NC; a brother, Sam Altman and his wife Diane of New Bern, NC, and a sister, Aneta Daniels, of Conway, SC. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, Paula M. Richardson and her son, Hunter, of Britton's Neck; Edwin Douglas and his children, Lydia and Alex, of Longs; Gina Douglas of Tabor City, Charles T. Richardson and his children, Ragan, Walt, and Grace of Britton's Neck; Alison Creech and her children, Hannah and Robbie, of Raleigh, NC; Charles Daniels and his wife Elizabeth of Augusta, GA; Christopher Daniels and his wife Ashley and his children, Ethan and Micah of Greenville, SC and Heidi Windmueller of Charleston, SC. He is predeceased by his sister, Elaine Altman Richardson and was the son of the late T. J. and Earline Altman of Britton's Neck. Mr. Altman attended Britton's Neck Schools. At the age of sixteen, he was in a diving accident that resulted in quadriplegia. He operated Tom's Wash-erette in Britton's Neck for many years. He was affiliated with Richardson and Richardson, Inc., for twelve years. He was a member of Nebo Baptist Church, where he was a member and former teacher of the Adult Men's Sunday School Class. He was also a member of the Nebo Brotherhood. Throughout his Nebo membership, he served on many committees and held numerous offices and was a former deacon. His civic activities included serving in the past as a volunteer tutor at Britton's Neck Elementary School and as the dispatcher for Britton's Neck Volunteer Fire Department. The family will receive friends at Nebo Baptist Church from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm Wednesday, July 14, 2010. Funeral Services will be held at 3pm Thursday, July 15, 2010 at Nebo Baptist Church with Phillip Hucks, Rev. Ragsdale Allsbrook and Rev. Luford Pope officiating.
