    2. PAWLEYS ISLAND -William Eugene Barnhill, Jr., U.S. Army Ret., age, 70, Pawleys Island, died Thursday, June 10, 2010 at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. Mr. Barnhill was born in Conway, a son of the late William Eugene Barnhill, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Wetmore Barnhill. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church ARP in Conway and was a retired as a Major from the U.S. Army with 22 years of service. Among the awards received during his tours in Vietnam were the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Bronze Star. Surviving are his wife, Marilyn Tompkins Barnhill of Georgetown, one son, William E. Barnhill, III, and his wife, Elizabeth of Mt. Pleasant, SC, three grandchildren, Mary Beth Barn-hill, William Scott Barnhill and Anna Catherine Barnhill, one brother, John Hall Barnhill and his wife, Caroline of Mt. Pleasant, and one sister, Eugenia Barnhill Christie of Hern-ando, FL. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM Sunday at First United Methodist Church in Conway with Rev. Carl Harris, Rev. James F. Patterson and Rev. Martin L. Taylor officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends after the service at the church.
