June 8, 1999 Dear Members: Since we recently had an incident of a member accidently sending a "worm" or "virus", (I am not a computer expert by any stretch of the imagination) I thought that the following information that I received today from the computer chip and equipment manufacturing firm AMG (Advanced Micro Devices) in their weekly newsletter,"Parity Bits", Volume 6, No. 10 is worth passing along: "EMail Text Doesn't Have Virus" "You can count it as a hoax when you receive an eMail that tells you not to open a specific message. Viruses transmitted by e-mail are carried by the attached files and NOT by the text of the e-mail message itself". I was just lucky not to open the errant e-mail that was send, as I never accept e-mails from persons that I don't know or that I did not request info from but it could happen so now that I know the scoop, I hope not.
