Hi Nicholas, Your names are not familiar to me but maybe some of my info will help... Pam Ricks JOHN SHEFFIELD...lived in Dover England around 1750 with wife, ABIGAIL. They had two sons, JOHN TIMOTHY and GEORGE. GEORGE went to France abt. 1771 and met and married CELESTE AUMONT. They had 2 sons and one daughter(name unk.)Sons were PAUL and GEORGE II. They escaped to America abt. 1793 and landed in Charlestown, S.C. (During their time in France, George changed the last nane to SHEFFEE but then changed it back when they came to America) GEORGE II should have been born abt. 1774 because the story says that at the age of 26, in the year 1800, he met and married ELIZABETH GRAY and they had 4 children: ELIZABETH, MARTHA, GEORGE and JEAN(Gene ?). Up until this time, all were supposed to have still had something to so with the seafaring business. Jean refused to so to sea and ran away from home, settling in Georgetown, S.C. He became a riverboat captain of a boat travelling the river between Georgetown S.C. and Conway S.C. This is where the real problems start because it is told that JEAN SHEFFIELD fell in love with an Indian girl known only by his name to her, LENORA LIGHTWATER. The story says she was of the Waccamaw Tribe but it also says Cherokee so I don't know if that is a misunderstanding of the tribal affiliations on the writers part, or if the story was just told that was for so many years. JEAN SHEFFIELD married LENORA LIGHTWATER in 1820 in South Carolina and the marriage was blessed by the Chief. The SHEFFIELD family then denounced their son and JEAN SHEFFIELD took the name JEAN SKIPPER and was known by that name from that day forward. (Skipper due to his being called Skipper by all the people along the river where he was the Skipper of the riverboat.) JEAN (Sheffield) SKIPPER and LENORA LIGHTWATER had 7 sons and 1 daughter but I only know of one, JOHN SKIPPER. It is said that after the children were all grown and Jean Skipper died, Lenora went back to her own people so all history of her is lost forever. JOHN SKIPPER (at age 18) married MARTHA LATTIMORE and they had 3 daughters and 2 sons. I only know of one son, J.E. SKIPPER born 08/23/1844 in Marion County S.C., d. 11/29/1901 of a heart attack. J.E. SKIPPER married SARAH ROBERTS b. 10/07/1850 in Horry Co., S.C., d. 05/27/1912. Marriage in 1871. Children are: 1- ISADORA SKIPPER b. 09/07/1873 in Horry Co. ADDIE SKIPPER b. 05/09/1880 in Horry Co. S.C. 5- ARTHUR W. SKIPPER b. 09/05/1882 in Horry Co. S.C. died in Blackshear, Georgia. 6- JOSEPH F. SKIPPER b. 05/07/1888 in Brunswick County, N.C. 7- WILLIE E. SKIPPER b. 03/08/1892 in Columbus County, N.C. d. 05/21/1921 EDWARD KIRBY SKIPPER was my g-grandfather so I have family history from him forward if needed or wanted. GRAHAM, son of John Graham and Elizabeth MacAdam, was born in 1820 in Girvan, Scotland. "In or near the town of Girvan, Scotland, one John Graham married Elizabeth MacAdam and to this couple in the year 1820 was born a son, Joseph B. Graham. This Joseph B. Graham came to the United States when he was eighteen (1838) years old. In 1840, he acquired a large tract of land at Cool Springs, South Carolina. In 1844, he married Elizabeth Skinner. Her father gave this couple deeds to more land and in this way, Joseph B. Graham became one of the larger land owners of this area. During the Civil War and after the freeing of the slave, this land remained untended and was later broken up into small tracts, none of which now belong to any one of his descendant. Only the old burial grounds leave any trace of his having owned this land. To Joseph B. Graham and Elizabeth Skinner were born two daughters...* X I.
