    3. Marriage and Death Notices from Baptist Newspapers of South Carolina 1835-1865 Died, on the morning of the 23d inst., at her residence near Sumterville, S. C., Mrs. Elizabeth Singleton, widow of Hajor John Singleton, in the 78th year of her age. Mrs. S. whose maiden name was Hunter, was a native of Virginia, from which State, while very young, she came an orphan with her guardian to South Carolina, where some years after she was married…(long account and eulogy) Departed this life, on Saturday, the 2d of December, 1848, at his residence in Abbeville District, the Rev. Cador Gantt, in the seventy-seventh year of his age…born in North Carolina, but was removed when young, by his father to Abbeville District, and settled near the Little River Baptist church…married to Sarah [p.17] Pratt, who was also a member of that church…left an aged widow, now four-score and nine years.… Departed this life on Lord's day, 26th Nov., Rev. William J. Fickling, at. 10 o'clock A. M., at his own residence.… Departed this life on the 31st December (Lord's Day) about 9 o'clock A. M., Rev. Allen A. Hart, a member of the Realing (sic) Springs Baptist Church in the Savannah River Association.… Fairfield District, S. C. Departed this life on the morning of the 24 of December, Mrs. Jane Young, consort of Mr. James Young, member of the Buffalow Church.… Issue of January 17, 1849 Married, in Lexington District, on Wednesday evening, January 3d, by the Rev. A. P. Norris, Mr. John Hickson, of Barnwell District, to Miss S. A. R. Brooker, only daughter of the Rev. W. Brooker, of Lexington District, S. C. Issue of January 31, 1849 Died, in this city on the 23d inst., Mrs. Eliza Whilden, aged 51 years and 7 months…mother of the Rev. B. W. Whilden, now on his way across the ocean to China.… Issue of February 7, 1849
