Taken from The Virginian Pilot newspaper in Norfolk, Virginia on May 13, 1999...... PORTSMOUTH.....Maebelle C. Yarbrough of the 2500 block of Bird Lane died May 11, 1999, in Portsmouth. A native of Conway, SC, she was a daughter of the late Thomas D. Chestnut and the late Nancy Chestnut. She was the widow of Hubert M. Yarbrough and was also preceded in death by a son, Larry Yarbrough. She was a member of the Church of God. Survivors include a daughter, Betty Ward and husband, Ernest, of Lynchburg, VA.; five sons, Lloyd Chestnut of Portsmouth, T. J. Chestnut and wife, Claudette of Conway, SC., Eugene Yarbrough and wife, Shellby, of Granbury, TX, and William Yarbrough and wife, Martha, and Jerry Yarbrough and wife, Libby, all of Chesapeake; four sisters, Marie Holt, Mary Jo Chestnut and Johnnie Lou Lupo, all of Conway, SC, and Gussie McDowell of Charleston, SC; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Riverside Memorial Park by the Rev. Carlton Smith. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 pm today at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. She had a long struggle with cancer and was ready to join her Savior.
