Entered the army in 1776 as a volunteer; Lieutenant of Dragoons Pulaski Legion, 5th April, 1779; Captain, — May, 1779; wounded at Stono Ferry, 20th June, 1779; Colonel of North Carolina Cavalry State Troops, 5th September, 1780, and served to close of war; Brigadier-General United States Army, 19th July, 1798; honorably discharged. 15th June, 1800. (Died 18th November, 1820.) Polk, Ezekiel (S. C.). Captain 3d South Carolina (Rangers), 17th June, 1775; deserted with his company to the enemy in August, 1775, but returned in November, 1775, and was permitted to command a company to January, 1776, under Colonel Richardson; he subsequently served as Lieutenant-Colonel South Carolina Militia. (Died 1824.) Richardson, Edward (S. C.). Captain South Carolina Rangers, 17th June, 1775, to —. Richardson, John (N. C.). Ensign 10th North Carolina, February, 1777; omitted 1st January, 1778. Richardson, Joseph (N. C.). Ensign 6th North Carolina, January, 1777; 2d Lieutenant, 27th August, 1777; retired 1st June, 1778. Richardson, Richard (S. C.). Colonel and Brigadier-General South Carolina Militia, 1775; taken prisoner at Charleston, 12th May, 1780; died September, 1780, in captivity. Richardson, Richard, Jr. (S. C.). Captain South Carolina Militia in 1775.
