Thought some might like to read this. From the Florence Morning News. Dillon, SC Mr. A.L. ( Jack ) Lewis, 111, 76, died Sunday, April 4, 1999 in St Eugene Med. Center, Dillon, SC Born in Gallivants Ferry, SC, October 19, 1922, he was the son of the late Alexander L. LewisJr., Catherine Foxworth Lewis. He was a graduate of the Aynor High School, class of 1939. He came to Dillon in 1939, before serving in the infantry during World Was 11 where he was wounded and received a Purple Heart. He bagan work at Hyman Motor co. in Dillon and later opened Dillon Body Shop where he worked more than 40 years. Mr. Lewis was a charter member of VFW Post 6091 Mackey Lodge, a Dillon County Fireman for 24 years, served two terms on the dillon county council and was a member of Dillon First Baptist Church. He is survived y his wife, Pauline Pratt Lewis of Dillon, a daughter, Linda K. Lewis of Columbia, SC, sons and daughters-in-law, Alex and Day Lewis of Dillon and Paul and Rosemary Lewis of Dillon, sisters, Carolyn Davis of Hope Milles, NC and Mickey Vieth of Chattanooga, TN, brothers, Bob Lewis of Florence, SC and Wade Lewis of Hamlet, NC, four grandchildren.
