Could someone please do a look up for me at the Horry Co. courthouse? I'm looking for information on James Smith, Honor Smith Harris, and John Harris. On a family group sheet done by Janet Woodard of Charleston, SC, she listed the source of information as "Horry co. Deed Book L, p. 363." If anybody goes to the courthouse, could you please copy the info and email it to me? I found some information about James Smith, Sr. (my 4th great grandfather) in the Spring 1983 issue of The Independent Republic Quarterly. Some Facts About the Descendants of James Smith, Sr. of Horry Co. by his great great granddaughter, Kathryne Smith Hurt. In it she writes: "....The Smith family in Horry Co. and South Carolina is large, complicated, and very interesting, It is important that it be understood that not every person bearing the name Smith can be related, and this adds to the intrigue of trying to unwind the puzzle of it all. In our line, the search has been endless, and has already filled more than one book, so I will be able to touch only briefly upon those named. Recently we have uncovered a number of original letters and documents written by some early Smith relatives. I have made copies of some, thinking some reader will find them interesting. All originals have been authenticated, and are now in protective coverings. Also included are a few of the very meny copies of deeds for land grants, etc., relating to these ancestors. It is generally accepted fact that the Smith family came to North America from Scotland and Ireland. Within Horry County, SC, My great, great grandfather, James Smith, bought land and settled near Willow Springs, just outside of town, on what was called the "Sand Road". He was a very large and prosperous farmer. Born in 1793, he and his wife, Honor_____, born in 1795, had several sons, all born near Willow Springs...." Does anybody have any information on this family or know where I can get a copy of the book that Kathryne Smith Hurt talks about? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
