I'm wondering if anyone recognizes any of the names in my Horry Co. family or connects to this family. Robert T. BOYD, Sr., my great-great-grandfather, was born abt. 1790 either in Europe (Scotland or Ireland), or in NC. Family legend says we came from the Cape Fear region of NC. I believe Robert's wife was Elizabeth COX. They first showed up in the Horry Co., SC, census in 1840. Robert T. BOYD, Sr., died prior to the 1850 census, and Elizabeth was living with her near grown sons and using the name Elizabeth COX. Robert and Elizabeth's children were: Sarah BOYD, m. John GRAHAM; Thomas BOYD, b. 1825, m. Susan Elizabeth GORE; Helen BOYD, m. Duncan B. CAMPBELL; Simon BOYD, b. 1828, m. Mary Helen BARNHILL; Robert T. BOYD, Jr., b. 1832, d. 1914, m. Sarah Elizabeth GORE, b. 1836, d. 1880; Daniel M. BOYD, b. 1837, d. 1912, m. Eliza Jane FAIRCLOTH; John BOYD, b. 1840. My great-grandfather, Robert T. BOYD, Jr., had two families. First he married Sarah Elizabeth GORE, my great-grandmother. I believe that Sarah's uncle George GORE raised her, but I am not sure. Robert and Sarah's children were: Anna Elizabeth BOYD, b. 1861, d. 1890, m. John Travis PRINCE, maybe moved to NC; Sarah Elizabeth (Sallie) BOYD, b. 1863, d. 1920, m. Wesley Darty GAUSE, lived and died in Horry Co., SC; Robert J. (Bobby) BOYD, b. 1868, moved to FL never to be heard from again; John BOYD, b. 1869; Louis Thomas BOYD, b. 1870, d. 1937, m. Ida Bessie BARKER, moved to Statesboro, GA, and was a mule and horse trader; Mary Jane BOYD, b. 1872, d. 1930, m. Elmore Wingate PORTER, moved to Taylor's Creek, GA; Jessie James BOYD (Daniel C. BOYD was his name given at birth though he went by Jessie James BOYD), b. 1878, d. 1947, m. Cary Elizabeth COTHERN, moved to Alachua Co., FL, at the age of 16; Dercus E. BOYD, b. 1880. My grandfather was Jessie James BOYD. His mother, Sarah, died when he was 2. Robert T. BOYD, Jr., remarried Sarah Margaret STANLEY, b. 1846. Robert and Sarah Margaret's children were: Benjamin Franklin BOYD, Sr., b. 1882, b. 1955, m. Nancy Isadella GORE first and Delia Gertrude HARRELSON second; Isabella (Izzie) BOYD, b. 1889, d. 1970, m. Mack Davis WRIGHT. My family were members of Simpson Creek Primitive Baptist Church. Any help, any leads would be so appreciated. I keep seeing posts concerning people who might have been siblings of Robert T. BOYD, Sr., but I have not been able to make a connection that will enable me to find the parents of Robert T. BOYD, Sr. One other request for info. Robert T. BOYD, Jr., (and maybe Sarah Elizabeth GORE BOYD, my great-grandmother) is thought to be buried on property owned by either James or Jessie GILMORE (oddly not at Carter's Cemetery where members of Simpson Creek Church are buried). I am told that this used to be a cemetery that has been neglected and is now overgrown. Does anyone know about this old cemetery? I want to find and mark my great-grandparents' graves.
