A Boston newspaper ran an article yesterday, 10/19/99, from the A/P about Sen. Jesse Helms (R-N.C.) and Carol Moseley-Braun, Illinois democrat and nation's first black female senator, nominated for ambassador to New Zealand. The following paragraph is a quote: "In the Senate, she (Moseley-Braun) led a successful effort to reject legislation by Helms that would have granted the United Daughters of the Confederacy a renewed patent on an insignia featuring the original Confederate flag." I thought this was interesting, and wondered if anyone knew more on the subject, including the "United Daughters of the Confederacy". Would anyone care to comment?
