I am trying to pin down the lineage of the Fair Bluff, NC SCOTT Family - Aquilla Scott m. Amanda Hayes of Pages Mill section of Marion County, later Dillon County, SC...because my grandmother was Addie (Addeline) Florence HAYES Fairfax, whose parents were Nathan D. Hayes and Amy Caroline ANDERSON Hayes of Dillon County, SC....Nathan is buried at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Hwy 57, south of Dillon, SC and his last name was spelled HAYSE on the headstone....it's believed that an "Amanda Hayes" was a sister to Addie but we do not know if she was the Amanda HAYES Scott, married to Aquilla Scott of Fair Bluff, NC (both Amanda and Aquilla Scott are buried in the Fair Bluff Methodist Church Cemetery and their headstones are hidden behind a bush, which should be removed). Becky Maples has a copy print of a 1971 Fair Bluff, NC newspaper article, (The News Reporter, Oct. 11, 1971, 75th Anniversary Edition, pg. 6, "Fifty Early Families of Fair Bluff"), which discusses the SCOTT family and she is BLESSING our FAIRFAX family with an effort to transcribed it to me via email...I have a picture of the first page but not a copy of the entire article, (several pages). Hopefully Becky can shed some significant light on the SCOTT Family of Fair Bluff, NC for us all as I am being BLESSED by you sending us Scott pictures...{:) Guess what??? My wife's mother is a SCOTT, from Alabama....what a hoot!!!...{:) I am copying this to Becky Maples and maybe she can help us with who Ethel Scott may be...{:) Please continue helping us FAIR BLUFF, NC folks as you are....your pictures are AWESOME!!! Bless ya, Cousin Dan Fairfax 2629 Somerset Drive Nashville, Tennessee 37217 home email: dfair777@home.com - ----------------------------- Dan, I know you are interested in what Bruce has to say about Aquilla Scott. "Aquilla Scott came to Fair Bluff in the 1880s and settled on the old Griffin farm south of Fair Bluff. He married Amanda Hayes of Pages Mill section of Marion County, later Dillon County, SC. The Scotts had lived for several generations in Marion County. Aquilla's great grandfather Thomas Scott came to America from Scotland. Thomas' son Pharoah married a Campbell and their son James married Sally Elvington. Aquilla Q. Scott and Amanda Hayes Scott had the following children: Ella who married Cornelius Goodyear; Maude who married Charles Holsonback; Claude who married and lived at High Point; Edgar who married Hannah Bash; Samuel who married Janie Powell, daughter of I.M. Powell, and secondly Mattie Waller, daughter of Alex Waller; and Spencer who married Maggie Dunham of White Oak in Bladen County. Aquilla Scott was a maker of wagons and buggies. His sons Spencer and Sam were in business for many years in Fair Bluff together. Sam's sons own the Scott Motor Company in Fair Bluff and Spencer's sons own the Scott Oil Company in Fair Bluff." Mattie Waller and Sam Scott Sr. had no children. Mattie was my first cousin once removed; her father Alex Waller was a brother of my grandmother Rebecca Waller Anderson (Mrs. Gilbert Johnston Anderson). Alex Waller's first wife was Sarah Anderson, daughter of David Russell Anderson and his second wife Elizabeth Fowler. Mattie was a child of Alex Waller's 3rd wife Sallie Taylor. ==================== -----Original Message----- From: LOYCEWIN@aol.com [mailto:LOYCEWIN@aol.com] Sent: Thursday, October 07, 1999 7:43 PM To: DFairfax@nespower.com Subject: Re: Ethel Scott (September 9th 1907 Do you happen to know who Ethel Scott is?
