    3. It surprises me how many people don't know about the insignia incident as it was, as usual, sensationalized in the media. The UDC was most assuredly not apathetic, waged a good fight, and was appreciative of the many citizens who supported them. At the time, however, PC was at its zenith and if it had been implied that bull frogs were offensive to someone, anyone, somewhere, at some time, a concerted effort would have been mounted to shun all bull frogs and remove them permanently from public consciousness. It was in this bizarre atmosphere that this whole episode evolved and there just was not much hope from the beginning, despite the un-apathetic efforts of many. The sad thing is that these kinds of stunts only serve to create animosity and division between groups of people where absolutely none would have otherwise existed. Fortunately, I don't think PC is as chic as it used to be. Also, those genteel ladies of the UDC are found in most of the south's oldest and most influential families and, while the organization is not a political one, some things do work in mysterious ways. Senator Helms' official web page is located here http://www.senate.gov/~helms/ By the way, South Carolina has its own cross to bear in this area, do they not? In any event, I'm getting back to the subject of genealogy now, no more political talk for me, and I still haven't found out anything on Alfred and Amelia Tyler. They were in South Carolina from 1812 through 1852, then to Florida, then back to South Carolina by 1855, then back to Florida some years later. Does anyone know what kind of enterprise(s), trade, etc., might have been going on between the two states that generated these moves back and forth? Has anyone charted the Tyler family in Horry county? The Fowlers? There seems to be quite a few of them, but I don't understand their relationships to one another. Many thanks for any help.
