Hi, all. For anyone who is in the area, you might want to check out a map exhibit at Myrtle Beach. I went over there yesterday, and there are some truly fine maps of South Carolina, some from Mills Atlas, quite a few colonial and Revolutionary War era. Even a couple showing Virginie and Carolina in 1600s. Maps showing the Battle of Camden, old nautical charts showing SC coast, numerous Civil War maps and battlefield drawings. It is really a fine exhibit. Many of the maps are for sale. Some of the prints are quite reasonable, others are finely matted, rare, and cost is way out there. But the folks there are nice, helpful, and happy to answer questions (even if you can't afford to buy one). Unfortunately this is the last week, but the girl told me she will be dismantling it next week, and most of the maps will still be available for viewing early in the week. Some of the maps will remain in the gallery. "It's On the Map! - Antique Maps and Charts of the South" at The Cheryl Newby Gallery, in the Rainbow Shops at 5001 N. Kings Hwy, Myrtle Beach, SC. (This is between Myrtle Beach proper and Restaurant Row.) 10a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, noon to 3 p.m. Saturday. Show officially runs through Sept 10, but as I said, they told me most maps will still be available for viewing Saturday and early next week. Jo Church Dickerson
