i sent off for a record at the national archives for a civil war vet confederate. they wrote me back and said they do not keep records for the confederate soldiers only the union and that the rebels had to sign a paper saying they were pardoned from the war. if this is true then how come the blank papers say to mark union or confederate when sending off for records. does anyone know thanks diane
