I need help and certainly hope that someone out there can help me. I have been reviewing information contained in Mary Belle Manning Bethea's book titled Ancestral Key to the Pee Dee. In the book, she gives the birth and death date of Elizabeth, wife of J. B. Perritt, as Elizabeth born on December 5, 1814 and stated that she died on December 5, 1882. This Elizabeth, according to McDonald's & Perritt's, was then buried in the Smith Cemetery, Hwy. 917, Smithboro. Now, my question: In my searching I have a Jesse, son of Joseph Perritt and Sarah Smith, who is of the right age to be the J. B. Perritt given. However, I don't know what my Jesse, son of Joseph and Sarah's middle initial is/was. Does anyone know? Can anyone help be determine which J. B. Perritt is the husband of this Elizabeth? The information I've found on the Jesse, son of Joseph and Sarah Smith Perritt is as follows: From Marion County South Carolina Extracts from Equity by Lucille Utley is taken: "Gideon Powers et us vs. William Perritt et al. Bill for Injunction and Relief. Filed 2 Jan. 1839. Amended Bill filed 5 Dec. 1839. Gideon Powers and wife Elizabeth Powers show that on 14 Jan. 1826 orator purchased from Sarah Perritt several negroes, William Daniels and William Perritt well knowing the possession on 26 Jan. 1838 took possession of negroes and William Perritt has them in his possession. Orator believes he intends to remove them from jurisdiction of court. William Daniels married Mary Perritt the daughter of Sarah Perritt. The oratrix is also the daughter of Sarah Perritt. Elizabeth Powers claims negroes by virtue of a deed of gift dated 21 June 1807 by Joseph Perritt, the father of the oratrix. Joseph Perritt is still living in Marion Dist.; has not lived with his wife for a number of years. Sarah Perritt has still living the following children: Elizabeth, wife of Gideon Powers, Jesse Perritt, William Perritt, Mary wife of William Daniels, John Perritt." Joseph's will listed his children John, Jesse, and William. However, it did not mention a wife. His brother John's estate was administered by Barfield Moody, who sold 130 acres to John's mother, Sarah, and William, his brother. The estate also gave other heirs such as Gideon Powers and his wife, Elizabeth; Jesse Perritt; and Sarah Daniels, her husband William, and her children Bosswell, Martha Ann, Gamewell, and Perry Daniel. If anyone can help me figure out if this is the J.B. Perritt who was also married to the Elizabeth above, I would truly appreciate it. Thanks, Dianne
