February 11, 2000 Dear Diane: It has been my repeated experience that the National Archives clerical personnel do everything possible but help when it comes to providing data and the Complied Service Records etc. re. Confederate Soldiers. I can't say more without being tarred with the catch-all racist label which I am not. Unless you can tell them right where to find it, then they would just as soon turn back your requests. That is why I got tired of their &^$@* and I ordered a book that shows theCompiled Service Record (CSR) of every SC Confed that has one, ordered from a "Southern Publisher". Give me your soldier's name and military unit (SC only is all I have) and I will tell you for sure whether or not he has a Complied Service Record. You will need to go to the NARA website to get their NATF FORM 80 form which you complete and use to file for the soldier's records. I'll be tickled to death to help in any way that I can. Their is a $10 charge if they find his CSR and no fee if they don't. There are some other Confed records that you can also ask for and I'll give those file numbers if your man has a CSR. Good luck---Julian SIMMONSCRAFT@cs.com wrote: > i sent off for a record at the national archives for a civil war vet > confederate. they wrote me back and said they do not keep records for the > confederate soldiers only the union and that the rebels had to sign a paper > saying they were pardoned from the war. if this is true then how come the > blank papers say to mark union or confederate when sending off for records. > does anyone know thanks > diane > > ==== SCHORRY Mailing List ==== > More Horry County Listmember sites.. > 6.
