    3. I obtained from the SCDAH a copy of the plat for 45 acres surveyed by James Beaty for my gg-grandfather, James M. The notation, beginning at the middle of the page, reads: "I do hereby certify for James. M. (stopping at the right margin and then beginning again at the left margin) Montgomery (which is lined out twice) Graham a tract of land containing forty five acres surveyed for him 16 August 1853. Situated in All Saints Parish Horry District Bounded S.W. by Land known as the Bigelow Land N.E. by land now owned by Daniel Stevens N.W. by E. F. Grahams land & on branch waters of Island Swamp, east side of Waccamaw River." Now...could it be that James M. is James Montgomery? Seems reasonable to me if the writer seeing that there wasn't enough room carried 'Montgomery' to the next line and then for some reason (preference of James maybe?) simply crossed it out. I know it's a reach. I've also poured over my topo maps of the area and can not find a reference to Island Swamp. There is an Island Green Golf Course on the east side of the Waccamaw between Bucksport and Socastee. Any thoughts? Dow L. Graham Researching Grahams of Horry County SC and Wayne County GA
