February 8, 2000 Dear Chris and Clarke Thompson: I thank you both for your kind assistence re. Capt. James Benjamin Lewis Beaty. I find he and his family cited on pages 87 and 88 of the "Beatys of Kingston". I never stop admiring the contents of that fine resource. As my earlier e-mail stated, I am looking to find the Minute Books and other materials of the Horry County Confederate Surviviors Association, as it is a plethora of valuble genealogical and WBTS data, that hopefully may not be found anywhere else. The National Archives; the Confederate Relic Room; the SC Dept of Archives and History; AND, THE hORRY cOUNTY cOURTHOUSE RECORD KEEPERS say that they do have them. I was in hopes of finding Capt. Beaty's descendents or heirs in hopes that they might have inherited this material as Capt. Beaty was the Commander of the unit for a good many years, until his death and I believe it had pretty much dissolved by 1913. Unfortunately, I see on page 88 of Barnhills that he and his wife had only one child, Nancy (Nannie) Beaty that died unmarried, hence probably had no children. So now I guess that I need to switch my search to his brother's children, JAMES EDWARD BEATY, and his wife IDA GRISSETTE. James Edward was also a distinguished member of the 26th SCV Inf Regt. but since the 26th never served at Chickamauga (Army of Northern Virginia not the Army of Tennessee), Barnhills is wrong in saying that James Edwards was wounded there! At this point I now am looking for the descendents of the children of JAMES EDWARD BEATY AND IDA GRISSETTE (two brothers married two sisters). Their 7 children'S names were: Leila Ida; Maude (lived in Sumter, SC); Genevieve; Anne; Ruby; James; and, Lewis. Finally, should anyone on the SCHORRY have any suggestions on where to look for the Survivor's Association docs, then please forward your suggestions. Thank you Clarke and Chris-----Julian R.
