    1. Re: [SCHORRY-L] SC Confed Soldiers
    2. February 11, 2000 Dear Bonita: This is a two part answer. 1. If your nephew has a photocopy of the SC Dept of Archives and History's Confederate pension files, that can't be gotten from anywhere else, in Horry County's case, except from them. 2. If your nephew has the SCDAH's photstatic copy of the National Archives' Compiled Service Records which they got back in the early 1920's, chances are but not always you have want they have but a nearly illegible copy of the CSR. Just to make sure that you have everything re. your veteran and to get the best possible copy, I'd make darn sure of his service name and unit and then order using a credit card. They are $10 each. To make sure that the "folks" at the NARA know for sure that they have a CSR for you veteran, I'd photocopy what you have and send it along with your request. You will need NATF FORM 80 which is available at the website online of the TEXTUAL BRANCH OF THE NARA. I have purchased all of the CSR for the soldiers of the 26th SCV Inf but still don't have a microfilm reader/printer to make the copies for you folks. Maybe next month I can come up with $400+ to buy one. In any case, if you will follow these steps it should be a snap. If the NARA sends your request back with nothing, then just return to their Supervisor, Bernice Jackson with a little hell raising atached and she'll get the job done for you. I hope that I have answered your question?
