Ginger, You can find the records for the Confederate Soldiers in Columbia at the Archives. Charleston County library also has them so I would assume that many other counties also have records. The NARA does not have Confederate Records! The Ashepoo River is in Colleton County, South Carolina. Happy Hunting! I contacted the NARA and they told me they would not have pension records for confederate soldiers that I would have to contact the state of South Carolina. I was looking over SC web page but could not find any reference on where to write, what information to include, or the amount needed for the search. Could you give me some suggestions? I know he died at Chapman's Fort, accidental drowning in the Ashepoo River, SC. I am wondering where he would have been buried. Is there burial grounds in that area. To tell the truth I don't even know where that area is. Thanks for all your help!
