Mrs. Osroe Gerald Causey, 94, died Sunday, July 4, 2010 at Loris Extended Care Center after an illness. Mrs. Causey was born August 1, 1915 in Horry County, a daughter of the late William Henry Gerald and the late Ollie Gilmore Gerald. She was a retired farmer and had retired from the Horry County Schools Food Services. Mrs. Causey, know throughout her community for her famous cooking, was also know for her service to her community, serving as a longtime pole worker with the Horry County Election Commission. She was a member of Pleasant Meadow Baptist Church, where she served in many capacities until Sunday, May 30, 2010. These capacities included past President of the WMU, Baptist Women's Director, Sunbeam Band Director in 1941 and longtime member of the church choir. Surviving Mrs. Causey are a sister, Delessie C. Tyler of Loris; a brother, Bernice Gerald of Tabor City, N.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Causey was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Onzie L. Causey; two brothers, Audie Gerald and Herman Gerald; and four sisters, Letha G. Tyler, Alberta G. Causey, Velma G. Lewis and Ladena G. Dorsey. The family will receive friends Tuesday afternoon, July 6, 2010, from 1:30 until 2:30 p.m. in the Pleasant Meadow Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. in the Pleasant Meadow Baptist Church sanctuary, with the Rev. Rocky Gregory officiating. Jack Willie Skipper, 83, of Sweet Street, passed away Friday, July 2, 2010 at Conway Medical Center. Mr. Skipper was born in Horry County, a son of the late Smiley Hampton Skipper and Foye Jenkins Skipper. He was a member of Pisgah United Methodist Church. Mr. Skipper was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was a member of Gunner Island Hunting Club, and an avid hunter and fisherman. Mr. Skipper was preceded in death by five brothers; and two sisters. William James "WJ" Bessant, 75 died June 28, 2010 in the Conway Medical Center. "WJ" a native of Horry County and a son of the late Bake Ridge and Essie Clyde Stevens Bessant and was preceded in death by a brother, Gene Bessant and a sister Alma Ree West. "WJ" was a retired carpenter and a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church. "WJ" served in the US Civil Air Patrol, Charleston, SC. John Herman Brinson, age 66, of Holly Hill Road, passed away Saturday, June 26, 2010 at his residence following an illness. Mr. Brinson was born August 18, 1943 in Loris, a son of the late John Austin Brinson and the late Alberta Hardee Brinson. He was retired from the South Carolina Department of Transportation, an avid fisherman and hunter, and a member and Past Master of the Tabor City Masonic Lodge #563 A.F&A.M. Mr. Brinson was a faithful member of the Macedonia Baptist Church where he served on various committees, was a former Sunday School teacher, a former Deacon serving two terms, a member of the choir, and the former Sunday School Superintendent. He was a beloved "Pa-Pa" to his two grandchildren and was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Joseph Reaves. He was a truck driver and was co-owner of B&B Stables. He loved farming, working with animals, and spending time with his family. H. Lloyd Cox, Sr., age 75, of Peachtree Road, went home to be with the Lord after a long illness on Monday, June 21, 2010 at his home. Lloyd was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and man of God. Knowing Lloyd was like catching a glimpse of the face of God. Sarah Lee Vaught, age 94, widow of the late Ernest Vaught, of the Hickory Grove Community, died Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at Marion Nursing Center. Mrs. Vaught was born in Horry County, a daughter of the late Asa Carl Tucker and Dorothy Floyd Gore. She loved Jesus and her family. Mrs. Vaught was a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Buena Vista Brawner and Helen Gore Lathem; two brothers, Carl Gore and Marion Gore. Michael David Causey age 17, died Sunday, June 20, 2010. Born in Myrtle Beach, SC, he was a son of Kelly and Wendell Vereen and Gabriel and Claudia Causey. Mr. J. Robert Carter, Jr., age 86, of the Mt. Leon Community of Horry County went home to be with the Lord Sunday, June 20, 2010 at the Medstar Division of the Kingston Nursing Center following an illness. Mr. Carter was born January 31, 1924 in Longs, a son of the late Rev. J. Robert Carter, Sr. and the late Lula Hardwick Carter. He was a farmer, a politician, a businessman, and a member of Loris Masonic Lodge No. 205 AFM. Mr. Carter was a faithful member of the Living Water Baptist Church in Longs, SC where he attended regularly and sang in the church choir. He was a former member of the Mt. Leon Baptist where he had served as a Deacon and taught Sunday School. Mr. Carter has devoted much of his life to public service by being elected to the South Carolina House of Representatives for six years, appointed to the South Carolina Highway Commission for a four year term and as the Director for the first ambulance service in Horry County. As a member of the Highway Commission, he was able to cause the first South Carolina Welcome Center to be located in Little River, get the overhead bridge built where Highways 9 and 17 cross the Intracoastal Waterway, secure funding for the Highway 17 bypass in Myrtle Beach, resurface the road from Conway to Georgetown, and pave dozens of previously dirt roads all over Horry and Georgetown counties. As a field representative for Congressman John L. McMillan, he was able to help many people cut through governmental red tape and get help for them when they were unable to help themselves. Mr. Carter was predeceased by his brothers: Manley Carter and the Rev. Burroughs Carter and his sisters: Bobbie Watson, Evelyn Todd, Clarice Carter, Stella Watts, and Effie Boyd. Mr. Carter is survived by his wife of 68 years: Willie Hardee Carter of Longs, his three children: Ron Carter and his wife Kaye of Atlanta, Judy C. Carter and her husband Tim of Longs, and Deborah Huggins and her friend Dr. Jim Price of Conway, one sister: Lula Mae Carter Hughes Davis of Conway, six grandchildren: Gina Ballew and her husband Rodney, Janet Faircloth and her husband Delane, Jamie Hendricks and her husband Inman, Timmy Carter, Richie Carter and his wife Maureen and John Huggins, seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends and always remembered by those whose lives he touched. The family received friends Monday evening, June 21, 2010 from 6-8 PM at Ward Funeral Home in Loris. A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Carter will be held Tuesday morning, June 22, 2010 at 11:00 AM from the Living Water Baptist Church with the Rev. Lebron Crisp and the Rev. John Goudelock officiating. Burial, with Masonic Rites, will follow in the Mt. Leon Cemetery. Mr. Samuel Aubrey Elliott, 86, passed away Friday, June 18, 2010, at Loris Community Hospital. Aubrey was born November 14, 1923, in Aynor, SC, a son of the late Samuel Porter and Georgianna Sarvis Elliott. He was predeceased by four brothers, Bernie, Ernest, Wallace, and Ed Elliott; and by his sister, Bertie Frye. Aubrey retired from the United States Postal Service after thirty years of service. He was a member and Past President of the Surf Golf and Beach Club where he served on the board of directors for twenty-nine years. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and served his country during World War II in the US Army. Survivors include, Norma Suggs of North Myrtle Beach, SC; his daughter, Marian E. Lewis; a granddaughter, Aubrey L. Bishop and her husband, Cameron, a grandson, Jon T. Lewis and his wife, Rachel, and a great-granddaughter, Abigail Bishop, all of Macon, Ga. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, June 21st, 2010, at McMillan-Small Funeral Home in Myrtle Beach, with his nephews, Gene and Glen Elliott officiating. Entombment will follow at Southeastern Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 a.m. Monday, at the funeral home prior to the service. CONWAY - David R. Brown Sr., 85, died June 18, 2010 at Richard Campbell Nursing Home in Anderson, SC. He was born June 12, 1925, in Conway, SC, the son of the late Thomas Charles Brown and Rebecca (Allie) Brown. He was the youngest of four siblings. He was a longtime resident of West Columbia and Lexington, SC. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a veteran of the Battle of the Bulge and former P.O.W. He was preceded in death by his wife Bethany Brown; brothers, Bill Brown, Kelly Brown; and sister, Sadie Brown. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, David R. Jr and Kristine Brown of Canton, GA. A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 21, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in Hillcrest Cemetery. The family will be receiving family and friends at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway, SC, on Sunday, June 20, 2010 from 6:00-8:00 pm.
