Jo, where did the map collection come from? Was it a private collection, or one from a library, etc.? I plan on being in Myrtle Beach in about three weeks. That will probably be a little late for the current showing, but if it is available locally, or near by, I would take the time for seeing it. Thanks, Ron Meshew, Rocky Mount, NC
My GTGt Grandfather was John Jason "Jackson" Barnhill who went to Pike Co AL from Horry and appears in the 1850 Census in Pike Co AL. His wife was Emiline "Goodson". I see a William Goodson was in Horry and I don't know if she relates. We have lots of family stories. He is said to have lead a group with or including Josiah Enzor from Columbia/Horry Area. His wife may have been married before. He and Emiline are buried at Eufaula AL. I have a list of his children. They appear to have taken all their children to AL. They are said to be part Cherokee. Sometimes Indians were listed as black or mulatto. Could this explain your Alexander's family. Looking at the age of the girl living with him and his first wife, could she be the same pperson as the second wife? John Carlile served in the 2nd Regiment under Col. Isaac Motte, Lt.Col. Francis Marion, Maj. Peter Horry, with the 1st and 5th, Pinckney's and Huger's Regiments from the 'Orderly Book of Capt. Samuel DuBose". John Carlile showed up on the 1800 Horry Co. census. He lived close to Benjamin and Francis Huger Jr. Can any of the Motte, Marion, Horry, DuBose or Huger researchers tie this together for me. Who led Huger's Regiment. (from john carlile rev. war claims). Thanks, Fred W. Carlile
Hi, all. For anyone who is in the area, you might want to check out a map exhibit at Myrtle Beach. I went over there yesterday, and there are some truly fine maps of South Carolina, some from Mills Atlas, quite a few colonial and Revolutionary War era. Even a couple showing Virginie and Carolina in 1600s. Maps showing the Battle of Camden, old nautical charts showing SC coast, numerous Civil War maps and battlefield drawings. It is really a fine exhibit. Many of the maps are for sale. Some of the prints are quite reasonable, others are finely matted, rare, and cost is way out there. But the folks there are nice, helpful, and happy to answer questions (even if you can't afford to buy one). Unfortunately this is the last week, but the girl told me she will be dismantling it next week, and most of the maps will still be available for viewing early in the week. Some of the maps will remain in the gallery. "It's On the Map! - Antique Maps and Charts of the South" at The Cheryl Newby Gallery, in the Rainbow Shops at 5001 N. Kings Hwy, Myrtle Beach, SC. (This is between Myrtle Beach proper and Restaurant Row.) 10a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, noon to 3 p.m. Saturday. Show officially runs through Sept 10, but as I said, they told me most maps will still be available for viewing Saturday and early next week. Jo Church Dickerson

Do you know the names of John JORDAN's children? I am specifically looking for a JORDAN that was married to an Elizabeth (Betsy), but in the early 1800s before 1820. Betsy JORDAN or JORDON ended up in Hancock County, GA in the 1850 census with her children Mathew, Frederick and Nancy and a Sarah TYRE and her children. Some how they were enumerated in both Hancock and Richmond Counties in the 1850 census. All of these people -- both JORDAN and TYRE were born in NC. Any help would be appreciated. bp ----- Original Message ----- From: Vicky L. Hi group, I've have a question on Alexander Barnhill which I hope someone can help me answer. I am, like lots of others on this list, descended from Joseph/Josiah and Narcissa Jones Barnhill. I'm trying to clear up some questions on the Barnhill's that I have in my database, even on those to whom I'm not directly descended. The 1850 Horry County Census shows: Barnhill, Alex, 25, M, W, SC; Susanah, 28, F, SC; Wade, 12, M, SC; Alex, 8, M, SC Susann (?), 6, F, SC; ?, 1, M, SC The 1860 Horry County census shows: Barnhill, Alexander, 39, M, SC; Susan, 40, F, SC; Wade, 19, M, SC; A. W., 16, M, SC; Nancy, 13, F, SC; Dorcas, 10, F, SC; Eliza A., 6, F, SC; Parker, Sarah A., 6, F, SC. The 1880 Horry County census shows: Barnhill, Alexander, W, M, 60; Sarah, B, F, 35; Ellen J., MU, F, 11; William H., MU, M, 9; Marion, MU, M, 6; Queen V., MU, F, 4; no name, MU, F, 2 It appears that, if the Alexander in the 1880 census is the same Alex in the 1850 and 1860 census, that Susan may have died before 1869 since the oldest child of the 1880 census record was born about 1869. It also appears that Alexander may have fathered these children by a black woman who may or may not have been a former slave. It is unknown whether these were actually born under wedlock or not but they did carry the Barnhill name, showing that Alexander did acknowledge them and they did live in his household. I have not reviewed the 1870 Horry census information yet because I haven't been able to find my copy (although I know I did it and it's hiding somewhere in my basement). But, unless the Alexander who had married Susan/Susanah had died before the 1880 census, I can find no other Alexander which would or could be this Alexander. Anyway, my question is....is the conclusion I've come to correct? Does anyone have any information on this Alexander Barnhill who could assist me in determining whether he did have a second family after the one with Susan/Susanah? I would appreciate any information anyone would be willing to share about this Barnhill. Thanks in advance. I do appreciate all the help ya'll give on this list. Dianne Moore Further research needs to be done in order to verify this possibility.
The death certificate of Silvester Jolly shows his wife's name to be Nancy.

Septenber 5, 1999 Dear James: Julian Harper in Lake County, Florida telephone book, closest "town" is Howey-in-the-Hills, FL. Evening or home phone/fax is 1-352-324-2213 and my office phone is 1-407-656-2322, ext. 136. My office fax is 1-407-6568504. We are on the computer a good bit and tough to get through to us at home, so send us an e-mail and set up a time to open the phone line if you can't get through. Give us a couple of hours advance notice. I can't believe that you have been waiting all this time and now are getting a response from the NARA! When you talk with Mrs. Jackson, you also need to ask her to do an "Unfiled Papers" microfilm search. It seems that after 20 years of sorting and filing the Confederate Vets papers and records, the National Archives just gave up and piled over 1,000 microfilm rolls worth of material into the "Unfiled Rolls" and never bothered to place these docs with the soldiers Compiled Service Recrods.
