    1. [SCHORRY-L] Re: Richardson - Correction
    2. It has been brought to my attention that I gave an incorrect initial in my message about Richardson/Collins/Thompson connection. Oops! Senility strikes again. In the listing of the children of John Thompson and Mary Collins, I gave the name of one of the sons as John W. Thompson, married an Edwards. Please note that the CORRECT initial for this son is John C. Thompson. Thank you for your patience. Jo Church Dickerson jochurchd@aol.com

    3. Does anyone on the list know of a Daniel Martin. Originaly from Conway or the Aynor area. He was in the Military and may have sereved in Korea after the war. Last account that I have, he was a law enforcement officer in the Fayetteville, NC area. After his death, he may have been buried in Horry Co. SC. His mother was Elizabeth Johnson Martin. I do not know his fathers name. thanks, james ===== __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Bid and sell for free at http://auctions.yahoo.com

    1. [SCHORRY-L] Richardsons
    2. Bruce Richardson and Jo Church Dickerson, This sounds like you are both tracking one and the same G.W. Richardson and wife Elizabeth Thompson. This is what mailing lists are all about! And I thank both of you for the exciting conversations on this family! Great work! My Thomas Richardson, if he is part of this family, drifted into Rankin County, MS where he is found in the census of 1850. There is another family of SC Richardsons in MS about that time that I'm attempting to connect also. (James Madison Richardson, born SC 1810 married to Martha Gooch). That family was in Rankin, Scott, Hinds and Choctaw Counties, MS just prior to 1850. My Thomas Richardson married Sarah Elizabeth Parker from Wayne County, MS. Jo, have you looked in those counties for your any of your Thompson names? The fact that John Thompson may have remarried and gone to Choctaw Co MS is interesting to me. Long stretch, yes, but stranger things have happened. Bruce, it sounds like your G.W. Richardson fairly much stayed in and around the Marion County, SC area. My grandfather said they made several trips back to SC when he was a young child to visit some of his father's (Thomas) family. Apparently two of Thomas Richardson's brothers and family were there. Let me know what you think. Amy McCroskie Denver, CO

    1. [SCHORRY-L] Re: RICHARDSON
    2. I'm cross-posting to the Marion and Horry lists, as the Richardson discussion seems to be going on on both lists. Apologies for duplicates. Unfortunately, the only thing I know about the G.W. Richardson who married Elizabeth Thompson in Marion County SC is that they were wed by the time her mother died in 1841. That means he was probably born before 1820. Elizabeth's mother was Mary Collins, daughter of Thomas Collins. Thomas Collins died circa 1840, and there is a Marion Co SC probate record for him (not much help). But a lawsuit about his estate was brought in Marion Equity Court. The documents in that Equity case show that Thomas Collins had a daughter named Mary. (I think I said Jane in a prior message, but I looked it up again and her name was Mary.) Mary Collins married John Thompson. Mary Collins Thompson died in 1841, and her children are named. They include one daughter, Elizabeth, wife of G.W. Richardson. I've found no further record of Elizabeth Thompson and G.W. Richardson. If anyone ever connects to them, I will be happy to send along your Collins information, and the little I have on John Thompson. The children of John and Mary Collins Thompson given in 1841 Marion Co SC Equity record were: John W. Thompson Stephen Thompson William Thompson Jesse Thompson Elizabeth Thompson, wife of G.W. Richardson by 1841 James Thompson an infant Of these others, John W. Thompson married an Edwards in Marion, and their descendant tells me that John W. moved to Britton's Neck or to Horry. At any rate, some of their children and/or grandchildren lived there - I am unclear on this. Sellers, in his "History of Marion County" says that Stephen and William Thompson moved to Horry. I've been unable to positively identify them in Horry census. If anyone has a clue on any of these Thompsons who went to Horry, please let me know. Jesse Thompson married a Williamson, and resided near and is buried at Gapway Church in Marion County. Jesse had no issue. I've found a number of records on Jesse, and they do confirm everything that Sellers wrote about him. James Thompson, the infant in 1841 Equity case (meaning under 21 years of age), I believe to have been my 2nd great grandfather, James T. Thompson. I've found many clues that they are one and the same person, but no concrete proof. As posted to this list before, James T. bounced back and forth between Marion, Horry, and finally to Bladen Co NC. His 2nd wife was Martha Harrelson, and she also had relatives in Horry, including her sister, Jane Harrelson Huggins. Further, my James T. Thompson had two sons by his first marriage, Solomon and William Thompson, both born in 1850s, who might have moved to Horry. The husband, John Thompson, disappeared from the Marion records shortly after the death of his wife. I have some reason to believe he might have remarried and gone to Choctaw Co MS between 1841-1850. 1. Re: [SCHORRY-L] Richardson
    2. Dear AMYWM, There is a possibility they could be brothers I was just thinking, because he was from Marion County that didn't mean that they weren't born in Charleston, S.C. The Prince George Winyah Records show that George W. Richardson was buried on August 19, 1855 no birthdate only that he was about 40 years old, so that would take him back to be around 1815. The only ting I have so far is his wife's name is Elizabeth Jane, don't know maiden name and by church record that she was stricken in the year of 1856. They had four children May Josephine, Alethia(?) Eugenia, Franklin Augustus, and Joseph Leander. Franklin Augustus died and was buried in November 7,1856 he was eight years old and a couple of months. Haven't been able to locate brothers or sisters. But I'm still working on it. As I find more I will let you know. Out of the four Joseph Leander Richardson is my great grandfather and he was buried in the Sampit cemetary. I will poast more as I go. Thanks Bruce Richardson

    1. [SCHORRY-L] Richardson
    2. Dear rbr911 and Listers, Maybe George W. Richardson born approx. 1815 is a brother to my Thomas Richardson born Oct. 1816. G-grandpa Thomas vanished into thin air until 1850 where he mysteriously appeared in Rankin County, MS "drifting" and working as a laborer on the F.H.C. Dent farm. I believe my Thomas had a brother, father or other male member of the family named George. Also John, James and Jacob and/or Frances. Just a hunch, but I think it's a good one. Rbr911, maybe we should talk? Amy McCroskie Denver, CO

    3. S. C. did not start keeping birth certificates until 1915, and even then they are sketchy. The same is true for death certificates. Marriage licenses are scattered until then also. Marion County has a few before then. but not many. Hope this helps. On Tue, 5 Oct 1999 00:37:33 EDT rbr911@aol.com writes: > George W. 2. Someone (cannot remember who) was looking for info on George W Richardson. As I was looking back over saved data, I came across this. Hope it will help someone. HTML>Subj: [SCMARION-L] RICHARDSON Date: 6/30/99 12:48:15 PM Eastern Daylight Time From: AmyWM@aol.com Reply-to: SCMARION-L@rootsweb.com To: SCMARION-L@rootsweb.com I'm brand new to your list and wondered if anyone here is researching the surname RICHARDSON. My research indicates my Richardson family may have come from Marion County or surrounding area. In particular I'm trying to track Thomas S. Richardson, born 1816 somewhere in SC. There are so very many Richardsons listed in the 1850 Marion County, SC census with the right names! My Thomas' children were named: James R., John B., William Thomas, Jacob Francis, Wood R. and George W. I haven't a clue about the names of Thomas parents. I'm just praying that maybe he named his sons after his father, grandfather or brothers..... all of these children were born after 1861 in Texas. Any help is sincerely appreciated! 2. I've been following the George W. Richardson e-mail and wanted to ask.... have any of you gotten far enough along in your research to know whether George W. Richardson had a brother Thomas Richardson? My Thomas Richardson was born 1816. He "drifted" until 1853 and he's been impossible to find prior to 1850. Thomas wrote in his journal that he was born in Charleston, SC but we know he didn't stay long. When he finally settled and married in 1861 in East Texas he named his children: James R., John B., William Thomas, Jacob Francis, Wood R. and George W. I know it's far-fetched, but the children's names are my only clues to my Thomas' family. Are any of you missing a Thomas Richardson? Thanks so very much for any help. 2. Dear Lisa, I will be happy to share info with you. I will mail you out some info this week. I would like to have any info you have, you don't owe me anything for postage. I received this info from a lady in Barbour Co., Al., her father had been doing this research (primary the Norton's from Horry) before he died, she and I looked thru his papers for the second page to this letter but no luck. As you can see this was written in the 60's , I've called info in all the towns memtioned and also for the Mark she talked about hearing from, but I can't trace the lady or anyone that knew her. Happy hunting! Faye
