Dear Edward, It was a brief discussion related to the perils of a particular lineage society and we have all now moved on, as best I can tell, and started discussing genealogy again. It was actually a rather short lived informational discussion and presented no problems that I witnessed. You must be catching up on some old mail today. I am researching the "Causey" family which carries me into the "Fowler" and "King" families, however I don't recall a Mary Fowler that fits the description of your Mary Fowler. I will look further and see what I can find. If you have any other information regarding either the Fowlers or the Kings, I might me able to help, however if you don't, I will see what I can find with the information I have. BTW, My Fowlers are from Horry and Columbus County, NC, and SC. Happy hunting. Bob C.
I have Tylers and Fowlers but I don't have any info on either family. I think my Penny Tyler born Sept. 1885 was from Horry County, S.C. but I don't know for sure. She married David Harley Newton and they are both buried at Allsbrook, S.C. As for my Fowler line, I don't know where they are from. I have a Mary Fowler that died May 09, 1944 and she married David T. King. Now the King family is supposed to be from N.C. or S.C. or Ga. Both of these lines are a complete brick wall. I'd love to find any info on either of them. If you could help it sure would be great. Thanks. Debbie KMcWNU@aol.com wrote: > <<Has anyone charted the Tyler family in Horry county? The > Fowlers? One last time (for me). If this is a web site for recipes, jokes, and "political" statements, I ask the site director to please state that it is so. If it is a site for the use of those of us who want to exchange genealogical information or ask for help, I would love to see this accentuated by "the management". Why can't personal messages be sent privately? This is the fourth site that I have seen these problems on in the last few months and all resulted in many days of wrangling and hard feelings, with several people sending "unsubscribe" messages. Those are people who might have been able to help another find a missing ancestor. Edward
Dan, Margaret(Peggy) Anderson was my great-great grandmother. She married a William N. Holmes - my great-great grandfather. I have some additional information on this family and believe I can answer your question about David Anderson. I'm looking for this information for you and hope to get back to you very soon. All the best, Don Holmes DHolmes475@aol.com
Hi again Kerry, My connection to the Fowlers is that Alfred Tyler, born 1810/11 who married Amelia "Millie" (maiden name unknown) and lived near Conwayboro was the son of William Henry Tyler and "Bithe" (Tabitha?) Fowler of South Carolina. They came from Horry county into Florida and traveled back and forth awhile. I have had zero luck on the Horry county list. It's an quiet list as lists go. Are you related to the Tylers and Fowlers, then? There are apparently quite a few in that county but I can't seem to find out how they are connected. ----- Original Message ----- From: <KMcWNU@aol.com> To: <SCHORRY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, October 22, 1999 9:31 PM Subject: [SCHORRY-L] Re: SCHORRY-D Digest V99 #230 > > <<Has anyone charted the Tyler family in Horry county? Please, let us stop this bickering about the Civil War and continue going on trying to trace our ancestors, whichever side they fought on. I thought that the function of the SCHORRY message center was something else than a forum for espousing one's ideas about the South or the North. Enough!!

On our local news here in Charlotte, NC, the organization that Jesse Helms referred to was the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) and he said he did not understand why this bunch of "sweet old ladies" couldn't use the Confederate flag symbol on their DAR flag. It surprises me how many people don't know about the insignia incident as it was, as usual, sensationalized in the media. The UDC was most assuredly not apathetic, waged a good fight, and was appreciative of the many citizens who supported them. At the time, however, PC was at its zenith and if it had been implied that bull frogs were offensive to someone, anyone, somewhere, at some time, a concerted effort would have been mounted to shun all bull frogs and remove them permanently from public consciousness. It was in this bizarre atmosphere that this whole episode evolved and there just was not much hope from the beginning, despite the un-apathetic efforts of many. The sad thing is that these kinds of stunts only serve to create animosity and division between groups of people where absolutely none would have otherwise existed. Fortunately, I don't think PC is as chic as it used to be. Also, those genteel ladies of the UDC are found in most of the south's oldest and most influential families and, while the organization is not a political one, some things do work in mysterious ways. Senator Helms' official web page is located here http://www.senate.gov/~helms/ By the way, South Carolina has its own cross to bear in this area, do they not? In any event, I'm getting back to the subject of genealogy now, no more political talk for me, and I still haven't found out anything on Alfred and Amelia Tyler. They were in South Carolina from 1812 through 1852, then to Florida, then back to South Carolina by 1855, then back to Florida some years later. Does anyone know what kind of enterprise(s), trade, etc., might have been going on between the two states that generated these moves back and forth? Has anyone charted the Tyler family in Horry county? The Fowlers? There seems to be quite a few of them, but I don't understand their relationships to one another. Many thanks for any help. Dan, I truly enjoyed reading your response. Though I was born with northern roots, my ggg-grandfather, Capt. George R. Congdon from Georgetown, SC (also mayor of Georgetown 1862ish-I don't have the year at my fingertips) fought in Sherman's March, and I can appreciate the cause for the insignia. But I am not sure what this means, the fact that legislation was rejected about the renewed patent on the insignia featuring the original Confederate flag...??? And, re: your comment, <<The apparent effort by Senator Jesse Helms to continue his small UDC effort to HONOR our SOUTHERN HEROES was unfortunately spurned by apathy.>>...perhaps I should have included in my original post, the final paragraph in the A/P article: "Moseley-Braun called it a cruel reminder that blacks were once "human chattel" in America". If the "spurning" was related to Moseley-Braun's interest, I would hardly call that "apathy"??? As an objective bystander, may I comment that there appears to be more than one viewpoint on the subject??? ...the first talking motion picture debuted? when the Titanic sunk? when the First World War began? It's funny how the bug bites; when I was sent this site, I put in my grandmother's birth date, and got back a list of how old she was when...a lot of things happened. I had wondered about that in the past; how old was she when the first tv was available, etc. This might not be considered a valid post by some, but I used it from a historical perspective, and enjoyed it.
