    3. I am new to the list. I am looking for more information on my paternal grandfather, Joseph Bowden Neely, Sr., born in 1888 in Bayboro, Horry County, SC. He had at least two sisters, Ada and Ruth. Their parents were Sharlotte (Charlotte) and Joseph Neely. I do not even know Sharlotte's maiden name. I would love any information, especially where Sharlotte and Joseph are buried. Joseph Bowden Neely, Sr. married Nettie King, born about 1896 somewhere in the Carolinas, and about 1920, they moved to Savannah, Chatham County, GA where their sons and grandchildren were all born. Joseph and Nettie (who remarried Harry Riley after Joseph's death) are both buried in Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah. Before Joseph's death in 1928, he had his own business selling Indian motorcycles. Thanks for any help. 3. Hello Bonnie!!!!....welcome aboard!!!! There were two David Andersons in Horry County, SC and both were listed as "Early Settlers" who petitioned, with other Family Heads of Households, for the establishment of Horry County, SC in 1801. "David Anderson, Sr./I" was David Anderson, Jr.'s/II father. David Anderson, Jr./II died in 1849 in Horry County, SC and a Will identified his current wife as Rebecca, (We believe she is Rebecca CONNER Anderson, daughter of Edwards CONNER [one of the identified petitioners in 1801, and a holder of many acres], Rebecca then married James Bratcher and is shown in the 1860 Horry County Census with James Bratcher), ..... The WILL states: "ITEM first- I give to each of the children of Elizabeth Sessions dec. One Dollar Each---"; "Item Second- I give and bequeath to each of the children of my daughter Sarah Ann Sessions dec. One Dollar Each.".....;"Item Seventh- I give and bequeath to my sons John G. and Thomas J. Anderson the tract of land known as the SWAMP Land, the same to be equally divided between them by Surveyors, James Beaty or W. J. Graham." Thomas J. Anderson is my direct ancestral Link to these two David Andersons through my mother Lila Mae ANDERSON Fairfax, 1926 > Joseph Christenberry ANDERSON > Samuel "M" ANDERSON > James ANDERSON > Thomas J. ANDERSON > David ANDERSON & Rebecca CONNERS Anderson > DAVID ANDERSON > William? ANDERSON, NC?, ca. 1750's. There was a whole bunch of multiple marriages "for survival" in the 1750-1890 era, so please don't discount your information and puh-lease share it with us!!!!!....{:) Hope this is helpful to all!!!...QUERY!!!!--- Who was DAVID ANDERSON, "Sr./I" parents from North Carolina / Virginia , ca. 1750's????? 3. Unfortunately the info I sent you in my first message is all I have on the Fowlers. Mary Fowler--died May 09, 1944 married David T. King--died March 15, 1932 child(ren) Lela Elizabeth King --born March 13, 1897--died Jan. 26, 1969 I don't know who her parents were or where exactly she was from but family talk has it that David King was from either NC or SC or Ga. I can't prove this at all at this time. I think they both (Mary and David) were in Florida or close by when they passed away. I know that Lela King married Joseph Rhames and he was from Florida. That's all the info I have on them. Any ideas? 2. Hi fellow researchers, I am still looking for a marriage bond for Joshua BLANTON III b. 1806 in Duplin County/Sampson County, NC, to Elizabeth? In Horry County, SC abt 1834. Joshua was the son of Joshua II and Mary ALDERMAN. I have not been able to find Elizabeth's maiden name. Anyone familiar with this family? Thanks, mayinfl

    2. << Date: Fri, 22 Oct 1999 15:37:12 -0700 From: George Holt <georgeholt@earthlink.net> To: SCHORRY-L@rootsweb.com Please, let us stop this bickering about the Civil War and continue going on trying to trace our ancestors, whichever side they fought on. I thought that the function of the SCHORRY message center was something else than a forum for espousing one's ideas about the South or the North. Enough!!>> I have been waiting for someone to say this. Shame on you, George! ...sorry, but not being a southerner and knowing little about this issue, I have considered this exchange educational and informative (albeit oninionated), rather than "bickering"...and extremely relevant to my interest in genealogy. It has given insight into the DAR and also shows how history is related to current day issues. Isn't that what genealogy is all about? What good is piecing together just a bunch of names without an understanding of social and historical background and perspective? It's not all black and white, and I'm grateful for every opportunity to gain insight into the history behind the people, especially where it relates to current events. Names are meaningless by themselves. I want to learn as much as I can; what better way to understand something like why two southern senators are in conflict over something like an old flag??? Why should anyone care? What's the importance of it? The history behind it. It's what 9th grade high school teachers try to instill in their students. Anyone who follows genealogy and closes their mind to the historical significance of things, past and present, is missing a big, important, part of it. So if you read something on the list that doesn't interest you, why not just surf past? Kerry McCarthy Wood Boston
