Sandy, I have a copy of a Family Group Record which I obtained from Dianne Moore that lists a Celia Anne Lewis, B: 25 Feb 1811 D: 23 Aug 1898, buried at Center Methodist Church (near Mullins, SC), Spouse: Rev. James D. Smith. Her father was Hardy Lewis and her mother was Dicey Floyd. If this looks like a fit, there is more information in the record. Robert E. Lewis
OK, I guess I'll through my Mincey out there and see if anyone knows anything. I have been waiting to throw this one out there....... Flauda Lenora Mincey born 1/29/1910 died 4/3/1975 was married to Ernest Elliott. Another line while I am at it...... John Ransom born 9/11/1857 died 4/30/1916 his wife's name was Amanda. Any information on either of these lines would be greatly appreciated. Does anyone out there have any info on LILLY ELWOOD RICHARDSON [B. mARCH 5, 1874; D. aPRIL 11, 1907] who married William D. Creel? Their children: Marion Europe Creel who never married. Davis Creel who married Bartell Wallace. Mae Creel who married Allen Skipper Marvin Creel who married Sue ? Believed to be in Marion County.
Howdy Gil...great to hear from ya!!!!....{:) In my personal interview with Vincent FAX, two years ago, he stated that his father would take him, as a young child, to the Hammond Cemetery on Spring Branch Road off of Hwy 76 SC and point to Levi FAIRFAX's headstone and say "That's your grandfather". I do have Ellis FAX's social security application (copy), and he listed Levi FAIRFAX and Louisa GRIFFIN Fairfax as his parents....{:). I contacted a FAX in Lumberton, NC and he was a Doctor and now has mopved his practice back to Washington State. He stated the real FAX name is of sweden origin (Faux), and no relation to the FAX folks of Englaish Background. "Bud" Ellis FAX entered his last name as FAX on the land deed document in the Mt. Olive Baptist Church area because he was illiterate and when people asked his name, due to his "accent", they could only make out "fax", so every body started referring to them Fax folks and he therefore entered his last name as FAX as a convenience to himself....all of the FAX folks in Green Sea area and the cemetery is of LEVI FAIRFAX origin. Levi Fairfax was the brother to my gg-grandfather Hugh Fairfax, who is also buried with his wife Evelyn Caroline HINSON Fairfax, near Levi Fairfax and Louisa Fairfax in the Hammond Cemetery...{:). You can verify this with Vincent FAX....{:) Please continue to keep me in your loop????....{:) Any Louisa GRIFFIN Fairfax information on the Griffin Family would be greatly appreciated....{:) Best regards, Cousin Dan Fairfax 2629 Somerset Drive Nashville, Tennessee 37217 Home email: dfair777@home.com Home phone: 615-366-7222 You may quote this email anytime as a reference...{:) Dan Fairfax --------------- -----Original Message----- From: gil strickland [mailto:gilstrick@hotmail.com] Sent: Monday, November 29, 1999 3:35 PM To: dfairfax@nespower.com Subject: Fax's Dan: Was over in the edge of SC today and ran across some Fax's in tne mount olive Baptist Church Cemetery. According to the American Alford Family Association 'ACTION' Volume VIII, Number 3, Winter 1996, page 7, There was a Celia Ann LEWIS b. 06 Nov 1822, MS, d. 13 Jan 1900, Pike Co, MS. m. Warren Jackson ALFORD b. 13 Sept 1819 Pike, MS., d. 22 Nov 1899, Pike, MS. No parents are listed for Celia Ann LEWIS but, the lineage of Warren Jackson ALFORD indicates father to be Edwin Barksdale ALFORD b. 25 Nov 1792, Cumberland Co., NC d. 10 Mar 1878 Pike MS and mother Martha P. SMITH b. 02 Mar 1802, SC, d. 08 Aug 1861 MS. (There is an ALFORD discussion list at ALFORD-L@rootsweb.com and someone there might have more information. Mr. Gill ALFORD at AAFA also monitors the list.) I have no indication that any of the ALFORDs in this list were connected to the LEWIS lines nor do I have any other data on Martha P. SMITH. Your Celia Ann LEWIS is of the generation of Edwin Barksdale ALFORD and I think that you might want to see if there was a Celia Ann who might have been a sister or aunt of Martha P. SMITH. Decided to look in another place and found in 'William LEWIS of Horry County, S.C.' by Mary (Lewis) STEVENSON the following which I will abstract: Page 6: Benjamin LEWIS (..believed to be William's brother) ... was the executor of the will of Lewis HARRELSON, Marion District, S.C. made May 12, 1804 (recorded June 8, 1835, Marion County Will Book I, p. 272). Benjamin LEWIS sold the Rev. Moses SMITH, father of James D. SMITH, husband of Celia LEWIS, of Marion, the "Alagator Tract," according to Marion County Wlills, Roll 731 (will made Sept 19, 1843). *****There is the possible SMITH tie-in that I listed in the earlier part of this message.***** Page 11: ......Hardy LEWIS, with John Newson, John McLain, and the Rev. Moses SMITH abt 1811 organized and built the first Methodist church in this section, which was visted by Bishop ASBURY. Hardy LEWIS's daughter, Celia Ann, married the pastor's son, James D. Smith. Page 12: ....Children of Hardy and Dicey LEWIS were: William L., b. Jan 30 1809; Celia Ann, b. 25 Feb 1811; ...and others. There are other mentions of Celia Ann (LEWIS) SMITH but relating to the marriage and/or death of her children or grandchildren. I find no mention of the name BUFKIN in this small book. Hope this helps a little. Let me know if I can be of more help. ROB Robert G. Lewis <rlew6897@interpath.com> Searching: LEWIS; ALFORD; FINCH; HOGG; WINBORNE; VOLIVA and others

I noticed your Eliza Mincey was the daughter of Isaac Mincey and Jane Floyd. Floyd is our line and I do have "one" Patricia Mincey, born Dec. 4, 1939 married to Thomas Strickland, son of Tomp Strickland and Mollie Floyd. These Floyd's were in Robeson County, NC. Do you suppose there are any ties here? JONI

Pearl, I have a Martha Lewis born about 1848 to Nathan Hugh G. Lewis and Mary Anna Hardwick. The DOB is based on the 1860 census which gives her age as 12. (This is information I obtained courtesy of Dianne Moore, another subscriber to this list.) Robert E. Lewis
I have notices with interest inquires for Lewises. I am looking for information about Celia Ann Lewis (b 1795) and Benjamin Bufkin (B 1794). They moved from Horry County to Miss. in 1818. I know that Benjamin's father was Josiah Bufkin but that is as much info that I have on his family. I do not have any information on Celia. Does anyone have any info on a family with a Celia that matches. Sandy Metz sgmetz@aol.com
