My great grandmother, Mary Magdaline Jordan Martins (b. 05-03-1878 d. 01-04-1968) death certificate states she was born in SC and her parents were Joe Jordan and Elizabeth Brown Jordan. I haven't Been able to find out anything about Joe and Elizabeth Brown Jordan. Do their names look familiar to any of you? Thanks, Sonja
Have any of you found that you have Caldonia Johnson in your research? I found her name in the Obituaries From Horry County Newspapers (1861-1914) on the HCHS site (see below). I would like to know the names of any children she might have had or anything concerning her. As I still haven't found who my great-great grandmother's (Callie Johnson Hughes Singleton) parents are, I'm interested in any posibilities. Any help or suggestions appreciated, Sonja Johnson, Caldonia, d. 15 Dec 1914, bur. at Rehobeth. HH 31 Dec 1914
After a few days over Christmas in SC, specifically Florence, Horry (Ketchuptown, Rehobeth) and Sparky's, I was anxious to get back to the search for my roots. I'd made some strides in the past year on my SMALL and STROUD lines, but couldn't get past Eliza STEVENS wife of my ggrandfather, Joseph L. STROUD. After looking at the 1850, 1860 & 1880 Census records I determined that she was the daughter of Munro (Monroe?) STEVENS (and his wife Sally), son of Enoch STEVENS and Elizabeth GRAHAM (daughter of John J. GRAHAM, Sr.). Well, this has opened up a whole new world for me and I've spent the day reading everything I can in the list archives about the GRAHAM family. Adding three generations to your tree is a great way to end the year! Happy Y2K everybody! I'm wondering if anyone recognizes any of the names in my Horry Co. family or connects to this family. Robert T. BOYD, Sr., my great-great-grandfather, was born abt. 1790 either in Europe (Scotland or Ireland), or in NC. Family legend says we came from the Cape Fear region of NC. I believe Robert's wife was Elizabeth COX. They first showed up in the Horry Co., SC, census in 1840. Robert T. BOYD, Sr., died prior to the 1850 census, and Elizabeth was living with her near grown sons and using the name Elizabeth COX. Robert and Elizabeth's children were: Sarah BOYD, m. John GRAHAM; Thomas BOYD, b. 1825, m. Susan Elizabeth GORE; Helen BOYD, m. Duncan B. CAMPBELL; Simon BOYD, b. 1828, m. Mary Helen BARNHILL; Robert T. BOYD, Jr., b. 1832, d. 1914, m. Sarah Elizabeth GORE, b. 1836, d. 1880; Daniel M. BOYD, b. 1837, d. 1912, m. Eliza Jane FAIRCLOTH; John BOYD, b. 1840. My great-grandfather, Robert T. BOYD, Jr., had two families. First he married Sarah Elizabeth GORE, my great-grandmother. I believe that Sarah's uncle George GORE raised her, but I am not sure. Robert and Sarah's children were: Anna Elizabeth BOYD, b. 1861, d. 1890, m. John Travis PRINCE, maybe moved to NC; Sarah Elizabeth (Sallie) BOYD, b. 1863, d. 1920, m. Wesley Darty GAUSE, lived and died in Horry Co., SC; Robert J. (Bobby) BOYD, b. 1868, moved to FL never to be heard from again; John BOYD, b. 1869; Louis Thomas BOYD, b. 1870, d. 1937, m. Ida Bessie BARKER, moved to Statesboro, GA, and was a mule and horse trader; Mary Jane BOYD, b. 1872, d. 1930, m. Elmore Wingate PORTER, moved to Taylor's Creek, GA; Jessie James BOYD (Daniel C. BOYD was his name given at birth though he went by Jessie James BOYD), b. 1878, d. 1947, m. Cary Elizabeth COTHERN, moved to Alachua Co., FL, at the age of 16; Dercus E. BOYD, b. 1880. My grandfather was Jessie James BOYD. His mother, Sarah, died when he was 2. Robert T. BOYD, Jr., remarried Sarah Margaret STANLEY, b. 1846. Robert and Sarah Margaret's children were: Benjamin Franklin BOYD, Sr., b. 1882, b. 1955, m. Nancy Isadella GORE first and Delia Gertrude HARRELSON second; Isabella (Izzie) BOYD, b. 1889, d. 1970, m. Mack Davis WRIGHT. My family were members of Simpson Creek Primitive Baptist Church. Any help, any leads would be so appreciated. I keep seeing posts concerning people who might have been siblings of Robert T. BOYD, Sr., but I have not been able to make a connection that will enable me to find the parents of Robert T. BOYD, Sr. One other request for info. Robert T. BOYD, Jr., (and maybe Sarah Elizabeth GORE BOYD, my great-grandmother) is thought to be buried on property owned by either James or Jessie GILMORE (oddly not at Carter's Cemetery where members of Simpson Creek Church are buried). I am told that this used to be a cemetery that has been neglected and is now overgrown. Does anyone know about this old cemetery? I want to find and mark my great-grandparents' graves. Thank you kindly. Janice Boyd Neal Alabama
I am trying to find a cemetery in Horry County that has the graves of Earl C. Ellis, Rebecca Ellis, and three of their children, Alice, Pickens, Jim or James Ellis. The cemetery would be in the Aynor/Cool Springs/Gallivant's Ferry area. Their land was near Huckleberry Bay and was sold in 1904-5 to Evander Graham. I have checked all the Horry County on-line cemetery records and have found nothing. It may be they were buried in a family cemetery? Is there anyone familiar with this area who could give me a clue or someone to contact? Also, has anyone done a history of the educational system in Horry County that might list schools and teachers in the 1870-1900 period? Thanks, Sarah Edmondson
Do you have a Bruce Hampton Holmes in your line? Thanks, Stephanie

I am trying to find if William Richardson and Franklin Richardson are related. I do not know the dates of their birth or death. William was married to Della and they had at least 4 children: Annie, Lena, M.W., and Harley. Franklin married Julia and they had at least one son, Henry M. Richardson. One of Williams and Della daughters, Annie b. 05-14-1895 d. 10-14-1968 was my first husbands grandmother. Her daughter said they used to visit Franklins son Henry b. 12-28-1879 d. 12-11-1933 because they were supposed to be related some way but I haven't been able to find out how. Any help or suggestions appreciated, Sonja Phipps
Clarke, I am also a Holmes descendant. Caroline Alston Holmes b 1790 dau. of John Holmes d. ca 1808/1809 who acquired land adjoining the ocean on Long Bay in 1775. The land later belong to Mary McIlroy whose daughter Mary Caroline McIlroy 1775-1850 married Ebenezer Singleton 1765/1775 -1830 Ga. Ebenezer had more land along the ocean as did his brother-in-law William McKilduff/McElduff. When Mary McIlroy wrote her will in 1816 a Thomas & Elinor Holmes appear as witnesses. Present day Singleton Swash derives its name from this Singleton family. Looking back through old maps the same location was known as McElroy Swash and Lewish Swash before that. Ebenezer's son Alexander S. Singleton 1809-1861 m (1)Eliza Dewitt (2) Sarah Nettles 1810-1864 owned land further south on Cain/Cane Patch Swash. Caroline Holmes' mother is unknown. Caroline m Jonah Rogers of Brittons Neck, Marion County in 1807 and headed west to Mississippi Territory in 1814. They settled in what became Clarke County Alabama and by 1831 moved to Marengo County, Alabama. There were some Holmes in Marengo County, then later some of the Rogers/ Singleton/ McElduff families moved further west into Mississippi, with some of the Holmes families also moving. I don't have any particulars about them, just ran across the names in census records. Ebenezer Singleton's widow and children moved west in 1835 to Marengo County, Alabama. They settled in the same area as the Rogers family resulting in marriages between the families. Do you know the parents of your Sarah Singleton? If any of this ring a bell contact me. gerald@lcc.net Gerald

Does anyone know who Marge Suhr with the email address emsuhr@email.com is? Today I received an email from this person asking that I not email them anymore. Very rudely, I might add. I do not know anyone by that name or email address. I wrote a very nice letter back to this person explaining to them that I don't know how they were receiving email from me since I do not know them and their email address is not in my address book, unless, they might be on one of the genealogy list or Brain Injury list that I write to. I asked them to send me back the email they received from me and I would try to figure out how they were receiving it and if it was indeed from a list, I might could assist them in getting removed from the list. I never mail anyone that I don't consider a friend or on a list that I belong to! Another rude reponse came that simply said, "no response do not mail anymore to me.you are cluttering my emaill....................." I don't really see what else I can do but I hate the fact that if this person is on one of our list, they will keep getting mail from me and I can tell by their response to me already, that they will get angrier and angrier over this. I was just hoping that if any of you know this person, you would pass on to them that I would love to quit sending them email, if I just knew how they are getting it in the first place! Thanks!
