Kirton, Sheriff, Grantor, Bk. L, page 454, June 1849, $5.00 for title to interest in Land on Hunting Swamp to James McCracken." This book has many Anns listed and it's obvious that this is the family that Larkin Hughes was related to. I bought the book recently so you should be able to get it. You may be able to get a copy of the deed from Horry County, but if not the S.C. Archives should have it and will make a copy for you very reasonably. Marion, I thank you for the reply and for the tidbit. This is the family of Horace Milligan(father: Prossie Duval) who married my sister Elizabeth P Gore. Hi cousin, Just in case Sharon Milligan McCurry doesn't get to her e-mail (Hi, Sharon!) for a while, I'll answer this one for you. "Pig" Milligan's real name was Mister Milligan. This is how he's listed in the North Carolina Death Records (1979-1982) at Ancestry.com, but he's listed as "Pig" Milligan in the SSDI. It's funny you ask because I was visiting my stepfather in Loris Christmas 1998 and something came up about Pig and he started talking about that family. He said Pig's Daddy, Prosper Milligan said he would have someone in his family that would be treated with respect--at least to the extent of being called "Mr."--so he named his son, Mister and then everyone called him Pig. Prosper owned a sawmill and had one son who fell onto the conveyor that carried the wood up to the saw. Before anyone could stop the conveyor, his head was decapitated. Dow, Thank you so much for the information. Elizabeth Graham and Enoch Stevens were my ggggrandparents. My line is as follows: Enoch Stevens + Elizabeth Graham Monroe Stevens + Sally Eliza Stevens + Joseph Stroud Blanche Stroud + Herbert Small Mable Small + Chester Thomas Me I have just recently been breaking down some brick walls with regard to my mother's lineage and since my parents just moved back home (actually, they're in Florence, but close enough), I've been consumed with finding out everything I can about my Horry relatives. The fact that most of them stayed "down on the farm" has helped, as has the Horry Co. Historical Society site which has enabled me to find birth and death dates for many of the Martins, McCrackins, McCracken's, Grahams, Smalls, Stevens, Stroud's, Willoughby's, etc. And, even though James and Amanda are not in my "direct" line, I'm still interested in their story.
