    2. March 5, 2000 Dear Clarke: In going back to clear out my old e-mails, I find that you are a Horry county "Martin" family researcher. My wife's Great-grandmother was Francis "Frannie" Martin married Asa Garden Causey around 1851. Her oarents were David P. and Sarah martin of the Cowford Swamp area south of Conway. She had 4-5 sisters and the youngest and only male sibling was G.A. Martin and we have additional info on him and her parents and cousins and aunts. If any of this sounds familiar and you wish to exchange info on the martin family, then please e-mail me back. 1. [SCHORRY-L] Shelley/Shelly
    2. Dianne Moore
    3. Hi ya'll, Since I've gotten a little discouraged working one line, I've decided to try working on another for a while. I've now switched to my Shelley/Shelly line and, you know it, right off the bat I need help. I am a descendant of Alexander, son of William Noah. I've included my group sheet below: Family Group Record ============================================================ Husband: William Noah SHELLEY, SR. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Birth: abt 1790 South Carolina Father: SHELLEY ============================================================ Wife: Delilah - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ============================================================ Children ============================================================ 1 M Alexander SHELLEY Birth: 1815 Marion County, South Carolina Occupation: Farmer AKA: Alexander Shelly Spouse: Sarah - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2 F Mary Lutton SHELLEY - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3 M William Noah SHELLEY, JR. Birth: 1824 Spouse: Sarah H. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 4 M Phillip SHELLEY - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5 F Rachel SHELLEY - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 6 M David SHELLEY - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 7 F Nancy SHELLEY ============================================================(Prepared 1 Mar 2000 by: Linda D. Moore 18232 Smoke House Ct. Germantown, Md. 20874 301-540-7756) ============================================================ NOTES: Alexander SHELLEY General(3,4,5): ! Last name also spelled Shelley. The 1850 U.S. Census, Marion County, SC, shows: Alexander, 35, M, Farmer, Marion, SC; Sarah, 35, F, Marion, SC; Joseph, 14, M, Marion, SC; Wiley, 12, M, Marion, SC; Elizabeth, 8, F, Marion, SC; Eliza, 6, F, Marion, SC; Celia, 4, F, Marion, SC; William, 1, M, Marion, SC The 1860 U.S. Census, Marion County, SC, shows: Alexander, 51, M, Farmer, $200.00, $500.00, South Carolina; Sarah, 53, F, South Carolina; Eliza, 16, F, South Carolina; Celia A., 14, F, South Carolina; Wm. D., 12, M, South Carolina; Sarah, 10, F, South Carolina David SHELLEY General(1): ! On 1870 U.S. Census, Horry Co., SC, there is found the following: David Shelley, 57, M, NC, Father & Mother of Foreign Birth; Nancy A., 52, F, SC; Henry D., 16, M; William L., 11, M It is possible that this is the David, son of William Noah Shelley, Sr. SOURCES 1. Information from Nelson L. Hardwick, 714 Cedar Drive, N. Surfside, SC 29576. Email address: nlh@sccoast.net. 2. Index to 1800 Census in SC. pg. 457. 3. 1850 U.S. Census, Marion Co., SC. pg. 44, LDS Film No. 44,819. 4. 1860 U.S. Census, Marion Co., SC. pg. 12, Film No. 1221, located in National Archives, Washington, DC. Now, for my questions.... In the SC Roster of Revolutionary Soldiers, there is a William Shelley shown as being born in Marion District, SC. He was drafted during 1776 under Cap. Luke Prior. In 1777, he was under Capt. John Ford. Next, he was under Capt. William Withers and Col. Daniel Horry as a cavalryman. He was in the battles at Stono, Savannah and the siege of Charleston. In addition, he was under Capt. James Jones and Gen. Marion. He was in a skirmish at Wadboo Bridge. Furthermore, he served under Capts. Benjamin Mummerlyn, James Davis, Joseph Davis, David Davis and Gen. Marion. He was also under Capt. Edward Brown and Capt. Frank Davis. In the 1786 Tax Return from Marion County, South Carolina, Prince George Return, Hugh Giles, Captain Haraldson's Company, a Joseph Shelly is shown listed with 150 acres of land but no negroes. Therefore, it appears that William Noah's father could be either William, who was a Revolutionary War Soldier, or Joseph. Or William Noah's father could have been Joseph who is shown in the 1786 Marion County tax return and his grandfather could have been William who fought in the Revolutionary War. Does anyone out there have any information on either this Joseph from the 1786 Tax Return or on William who fought in the Revolution? I believe that these are all related and would really like anything at all about these two individuals -- and about any known link with William Noah. Thanks for any information ya'll can give me on this family. Dianne

    3. In the seven or eight months that I've been the coordinator for Horry County, I've had just two URLs for the site. Adding a redirect page to the first site (the one on Mindspring) is on my to-do list, but I've been out of town for the last week and haven't had a chance to get that done yet. If you go back and look at my email, you'll note that I included the URL for the site at the end of the post. This is a standard practice for me, and every email about the site will contain the correct URL. Those of you who bookmark the site might want to go ahead and delete the old bookmarks to avoid any confusion.
