March 26, 2000 Dear Debbie: No hit for David Harley Newton. You still should check the HCHS Confed Pension list material as there is a good chance Mr. Newton's records may have been destroyed during battlefield conditions. There are 59 SC Newton surname vets shown which is far too many for me to report. If you will send me a SSAE and a short reminder message, I'll photocopy the page and send it to you. Julian R. Harper, 10030 East Dewey Robbins Road, Howey-in-the-Hills, FL 34737. Also, it would be a good idea to review my earlier e-mail to Debbie re. further resource websites. I have a John J. Tyler with the SC 2nd Arty, Co. A, and this gentleman survived the War. I have a Daniel H. Chestnut, on page 89 of Broadfoot Publishing's " SC Troops", Pvt. 10th SC Inf, 2nd Co. "G" and it looks like he survived the War. Good luck.------Julian Debbie wrote: > Hi if you have time could you look up David Harley Newton (or any Newton's > for that matter), Daniel Henry Chestnut, John Tyler. March 26, 2000 Dear Ginger: Per the "South Carolina Roster, Nmae Roster, Vol. 1" by Broadfoot Publishing, page 405, John E. Rhame (no John E. Or J.E. Rhames) was a member of the 2nd SC Cav, Co. "A". By being cited in this book it means that he has a Military Compiled Service Record on file at the Textual Service Branch of the National Archives and Record Administration in Wash, DC. They have a website and the NATF FORM 80 there needed to order his MCSR and it costs $10.00. It is well worth the money. I know very little about the 2nd Cav so I would recommend that you surf over to the following website that is great re. SC Confed's http://members.tripod.com/mwyckoff/index.html or input keyword Mac Wyckoff. Finally, according to Kirklands "Broken Fortunes" , and I believe but don't know for sure that this is your man: Rhaime, John E., from Kershaw County (KW), died at age 22 while in service to the Confederacy on 7/16/1864 at Green Pond, SC accidental drowning in the Ashepoo River. Hope this makes Confederate Memorial Day more meaningful----Julian Ginger Hederer wrote: > Could you please look up John E. Rhame/Rhames. March 25, 2000 Dear List Participants: In preparation for the upcoming Confederate Memorial Day, and to more fully honor and know of the sacrifices made by our ancestors for the "Southern Cause", we will do as many look-ups as possible for the potential South Carolina (SC only) Confederate Veterans of your family, free of charge (we never charge) until April 1st. Also, you may want to check the Horry County Historical Society website for a listing of the Horry County Confederate Pensioners and other military resources. hello can you send what you have on the booth family
Regarding the Booth family I don't have anything more current than the mid 1800's but my ggg aunt Margaret (Patty) Holmes married James Booth and Samantha Sarvis's son James Wilson Booth. I have as much as Margaret's and James' children if that helps any. My direct line came through Margaret Holmes' brother Christopher Cashion Holmes so the Booth family is not in my direct line. Hi Robert, Sorry I an unable to answer your question re: the location of the Horry Co. Hist. Soc. However, you will be getting the answer from the list, I'm sure. I noticed your Vaught line and would like to ask a question. I'm told that Matthias Vaught (Sr) married Mary Mercy Todd. Do you have this info.? And if so, do you know the origins of Mary Mercy Todd and is it documented? Thanks for any help you can provide. Best regards. Ed Todd
Cary Bailey is sending me sumpin' on a FREDERICK FAIRFAX...{:). David Strickland came from a whole bunch of STRICKLANDS!....{:). Frederick and the William heirs sold their land warrants to William Faircloth (who I think is listed in the Dobbs/Johnston listings as well, and I think there are Faircloths in Columbus county listings as well) in 1786 (sold them on the exact same day, which makes me think that Frederick and William were related) ... did you make the connection between Frederick and Walter (for some reason, I thought you did ...I don't know why I think that) ... the heirs of Dormand and Herrenton sold their warrants to James Tiner (the lawyer on their legal document) in 1797 ... Did you ever see Fairfax, NC on www.mapquest.com?? I saw it in my North Carolina gazeteer book as well ...it seems to be on a Lake Cheowa (or something like that) .... its in the Smokies I believe ... sort of indicates a Fairfax wanderer early on I would think ... If you look at the Dobbs 1780 list, you will see that a Carter is a large landowner living right next to Peter ... We need to see if he had a will on-line ... maybe something got mentioned that would give us a lead ... See ya Dan'l (Boone!! as in the old TV series ... don't know why I remember people calling him Dan'l!!!) One more thing ... the David Strickland listed next to Micajah and Needham is probably his father-in-law, but did we ever figure out where he came from? who his parents were? its been awhile since I looked at the Strickland stuff.... My line is John Vaught, Matthias Vaught, Peter Vaught I, Peter Vaught II, Anna Elida Vaught [my Grandmother], and me Robert Roach. Thanks, Robert
