April 25, 2000 Dear James and Sonya: Are these folks any kin to David P. Martin, dob 1800 and dod 1855 and his wife M.A. Martin, their daughter Francis, dob 1833 who married Asa Garden Causey? Francis' two sisters married two Harper brothers when their daddy died in 1855. If so, then give me a hollar as I might have something to exchange. Sonja, I belive I have found a part of my family in the Martin outline you have posted. From stories my mother has told me, I belive that the Martins below are part mine. Follow, if you will. My mothers father was William Wilson Squires. After his first wife died he married Elizabeth Johnson. They had 3 children, Doshie Lee, Lilly and Malcolm. When these children were from 6 to 10 years old, William Wilson Squires died and the children went to live with Squires uncles, reasons are unknown. Elizabeth remarried to Daniel G Martin. Mothers remembers some of the children to be, Coleman, Grace and Dozier. These are in your outline. I have the obit for Daniel D.Martin and it lists Coleman and Mark as his brothers. How sure are you of the "Alice" Johnson below? Could it be Elizabeth? There are so many of the names that match mine, I just gotta belive this is part of my family that has been lost for years. Do you have more on these Martins? The obit(1977) gives Mark Martin being in Red Springs, NC. Coleman Martin being in Laurinburg, NC. Pleaseeeeee tell me you have more. james ......................................................... 3 Daniel Martin d: Unknown ....... +Alice Johnson d: Unknown ....... 4 Mark Martin b: Private ....... 4 Charlie Martin b: Private .... *2nd Wife of Daniel Martin: ....... +Fannie Hucks d: Unknown ....... 4 Coleman Martin b: Private ....... 4 Grace Martin b: Private ....... 4 Dozier Martin b: Private --- Sonja Phipps <srphipps@sccoast.net> wrote: > Hi everybody, I've placed 2 outline reports, both Martin & > Singleton, on my > family tree page and need somebody to check for needed > corrections/additions. Robert, I am a Tyler researcher. I have been going through all the Tylers in Horry Co trying to sort them out and make connections. In reviewing I came across your email of Jan 29th. If you have progressed any on this line I would love to hear from you. I would love to send you a word file on a Tyler family that I think is yours, John Jackson Tyler. If you would accept the attachment let me know and I will send it. Looking forward to hearing from you. If the rest of you are having the same problem as I have with John, Henry and Moses you may find this as funny as I did: THE THIRTEEN COMMANDMENTS FOR NAMES: (1) Thou shalt only name your male children: James, John, Joseph, Jonathan, Richard, Thomas or William (2) Thou shalt only name your female children: Elizabeth, Mary, Martha, Sarah or Virginia (3) Thou shalt leave NO trace of your female children. (4) Thou shalt, after naming your children from the above lists, call them by strange nicknames such as: Ike, Eli, Polly, Dolly, Sukey.---making them as difficult to trace as possible. (5) Thou shalt NOT use any middle names on any legal documents or census reports, and use only initials on all legal documents. (6)Thou shalt learn to sign all documents illegibly so that your surname can be spelled, or misspelled, in various ways: Hicks, Hicks, Hix, Hixe, Hucks, Kicks (7) Thou shalt, after no more than 3 generations, make sure that all family records are lost, misplaced, burned in a court house fire, or buried so that NO future trace of them can be found. (8) Thou shalt propagate misleading legends, rumors, & vague innuendo regarding your place origination. (A) you may have come from : England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales....or Iran. (B) you may have American Indian ancestry of the______tribe...... (c) You may have descended from one of three brothers that came over on a ship from______ (9) Thou shalt leave NO cemetery records, or headstones with legible names. (10) Thou shalt leave NO family Bible with records of birth, marriages, or deaths. (11) Thou shalt ALWAYS flip thy name around. If born James Albert, thou must make all the rest of thy records in the names of Albert, AJ, JA, AL, Bert, Bart, or Alfred. (12) Thou must also flip thy parent's names when making reference to them, although "Unknown" or a blank is an acceptable alternative. (13) Thou shalt name at least 5 succeeding generations of males, and dozens of their cousins with identical names in order to totally confuse researchers. AMEN!
