Chad Andrew Johnson, 25, of Marigold Road died Tuesday, May 9, 2010. He was born October 1, 1984 in Conway a son of Walter Andrew and Penny Lynette Johnson. He was predeceased by his paternal grandmother, Katie Grainger Causey. Chad will be missed by his family. Gladys Skipper, 71, of Willard Road died Sunday, May 9, 2010 at Conway Medical Center. She was born February 25, 1939 in Aynor a daughter of the late French and Ruby Jones Harrelson. Gladys was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed working in her yard and with her flowers. She loved going to church and talking to people, especially Chummy and Weston. She surely will be missed by all. Mrs. Vina Elwood Gasque Ivey, age 77, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, May 8, 2010. Mrs. Ivey was born August 10, 1932 in Conway, a daughter of the late Enoch and Mary Eliza Lee Gasque. She graduated from Aynor High School and was a homemaker. Mrs. Ivey was a devoted Christian and a member of Dogwood Hill Baptist Church. She was predeceased by her husband, Gentry A. Ivey and one sister, Elsie Mae Lewis. She is survived by four children, Mary Wollenhaupt and her husband Paul of Whiteville, N.C., Jane Long and her husband Dale, Susie Helfinstine and her husband Jeff, and Connie Graham and her husband Rev. Donnie Graham all of Loris; four brothers, Carlon Gasque and his wife Violet of Aynor, J.C. Mrs. Ellwood Louise Carter Hardwick, age 83, of the Crescent Beach section and widow of Walden T. Hardwick, Sr. passed away Friday, May 7, 2010 at her home following an illness. She was born on August 29, 1926 in Loris, a daughter of the late John R. and Lillie Hardee Carter. She was predeceased by her infant son, Walden T. Hardwick, Jr. and one brother, John Harold Carter. Mrs. Hardwick was a graduate of Loris High School and attended Columbia College. Her career began in civil service at the U.S. Naval Shipyard in Charleston, S.C. during World War II. This continued into government service as a Congressional secretary and ended with her retirement from federal service in 1993. Mrs. Hardwick is survived by one son, Steven T. Hardwick of North Myrtle Beach; three daughters, Ann Hardwick Ward of North Myrtle Beach, Nancy C. Hardwick and her husband Rob Schirmer of Surfside Beach, and Karen Hardwick Beaty and her husband Jim of Decatur, Georgia; five grandchildren: Sally W. Brown and her husband David, Suzanne W. Bayer, Stephanie W. Matthews and her husband Matt, Julie W. Frances W. Platt, 75, passed away May 8, 2010 at the home of her daughter on the Isle of Palms. Mrs. Platt was the only daughter of, and was predeceased by, her loving parents, Edward Hill Waters and Carline Faircloth Waters. Mrs. Platt graduated from Loris High School in 1964, and later moved with her three children, where she was fortunate enough to manage several Credit Unions for the next 24 years and had the distinct honor of serving as the first woman president of the Trident Chapter of Credit Unions of which there were 18 at the time. Ms. Platt served two successful terms at this position. In 1988, she earned her real estate license and spent the next 11 years as a successful real estate agent in Charleston SC and the surrounding areas. Mrs. Platt was a member of First Baptist Church in Murrells Inlet and served as secretary of the Women's Missions Union (WMU), and on the Hospitality and the Homecoming committees. She sang beautifully in the choir and was the leader of the senior group, XYZ. Mrs. Platt is survived by her loving children, daughter Rebecca P. McKee of Isle of Palms, SC; and sons, Thomas Edward Platt of Paris, KY, and Steven Eugene Platt of Mt. Pleasant, SC; and also by her grandchildren, Heather M. Thompson of Moncks Corner, SC, Palmer H. McKee of Isle of Palms, SC, Madaline Delaney Thompson of Moncks Corner, SC, Jennifer P. Coalson of Shelby, NC and Brittney M. Platt of Wilmington, NC. He was past master of the Old Jacksonboro Lodge in Ravenel and a former Shriner with the Indians. He was past vice president and currently served on the board of directors for the Philip Simmons Artist Blacksmith Guild. He retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard as a foreman in nuclear inspection. After his retirement he became town inspector for the city of Ravenel for ten years. He owned and operated Village Iron Works and was currently teaching at Trident Technical College. Surviving in addition to his wife are: 3 sons: Russell Suggs (Cindy) of St. Stephen, Terry Suggs (Renee) of Mount Pleasant and Jeffrey Suggs (Kristi) of Lancaster. 6 grandchildren: Todd Wilson, Kevin Suggs, Annabelle Suggs, Lauryn Wilson, Francesca Suggs and Gabrielle Suggs, brother and sister: Bobby Suggs (Pam) of Summerville and Donna Darby of Mount Pleasant. Arlene J. Skipper, age 80, wife of the late Aubrey Eugene Skipper, went home to be with her heavenly father while surrounded by her family and extended family at Agape Hospice. Mrs. Geraldine Cannon Snyder, 84, passed away Thursday, May 6th at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. Mrs. Snyder was born July 13, 1925, in Conway, SC, a daughter of the late Jim Mayo and Marie Dix Cannon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard L. Snyder, her son-in-law, Richard E. Byrd, and her sister, Marionette C. Lee. Gerri was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a devoted friend to all. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Myrtle Beach and Myrtle Beach Shrine Club Ladies Auxiliary. Prior to moving to Myrtle Beach, Mrs. Snyder resided in Conway, SC. She is survived by two daughters; Vickie S. Byrd of Raleigh, NC and Dawn S. Alford and her husband William H. "Billy" Alford of Myrtle Beach, SC; a brother-in-law, J. Mrs. Ann Bailey Sims, age 73, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday morning, May 4, 2010, following a sudden illness. Born December 20, 1936 in Loris, SC Mrs. Sims was the daughter of Douglas Bristow Bailey and Annie Lee Singleton Bailey. Mrs. Sims was a homemaker and a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Mrs. Sims had a tremendous zeal for life, and was a very active member of Grace Tabernacle in Loris, SC where, for over twenty five years, she served as "Praise and Worship Leader" and was a past Treasurer. Survivors include her husband Troy Sims of the home; three sons: Andy Sims of Boone, NC, Mark Lee Sims and wife Tamara B. Sims of Loris, SC, and Kim A. Sims and wife Angel B. Tyler and four brothers, Ellison, Weston, Paul and Horace Hardee. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Floyd E. Taylor of the home; daughters Catherine (Thomas P.) Cole of Wooster, OH and Jackie (Edward W.) Rabin of Chicago, IL; sisters Frances (James E.) King of Bedford, VA and Hazel (Melvin L.) Baker of Dale City, VA; grandchildren, Tanya Cole of Atlanta, GA and Phillip (Maria) Cole of Simpsonville, SC; great-grandchildren Jonathon and Eleni Cole. Mrs. Taylor was a past Worthy Matron, faithful and active member of Eastern Star Chapter 56 for over 40 years. She was an avid gardener, both flowers (especially roses) and organic vegetables. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, quilting, needlework and for many years was quite the fisherman, even making her own cast nets. She was a lighthouse collector and at age 70, took art lessons and started painting pictures f lighthouses, flowers and churches. She was always looking for something new to learn. She loved people and always spread sunshine and smiles to everyone she met. We thank the staff and residents of Ashley River Plantation Assisted Living Community for all the hugs and love you have shared with our "Sweet Lorraine". He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sarah Jones Larrimore; four daughters, Cathy (Thurman) Lee, Deborah L. Stalvey, Theresa ( Michael ) Beverly and Susan ( Brent ) Hanes, all of Conway; one son, Ronnie ( Michelle ) Larrimore of Myrtle Beach; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held 3 pm Saturday, May 1, 2010 at Piney Grove Baptist Church with the Reverend Jamie Montgomery officiating. Burial will follow at Old Neck Cemetery. Alton Edward Cannon, age 74 of Aynor, died April 22, 2010 at his residence. A native of Conway, he was a son of the late Walker Cannon and Blanch Joyner Cannon. Mr. Cannon was a bailiff for the Horry County Sheriff Department for over 37 years. He is survived by a brother, William "Bill" Cannon of Goose Creek, a sister, Juanita Bath of Conway, Judy Barnhill, friend and caregiver, and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Elwood Cannon. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday at 11:00 AM at the Homewood Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. MARION - Larry Michael Graham, 52, died Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at home after an extended illness. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, April 30, 2010 at Richardson Funeral Home Chapel, followed by burial at Palmetto Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm on Thursday, April 29, at the funeral home. Mr. Graham was born in Conway, a son of Irma Letha Alford Graham and the late Julius Pink Graham, Jr. He is also predeceased by a son, Larry Michael Graham, Jr., daughter, Laura Michelle Graham, and step-daughter, Alisha Fae Carpenter. Larry was a tobacco farmer and worked for Silva Tech "Crop Care" in Dillon. He was a member of East Marion Pentecostal Holiness Church. Surviving are his wife, Faye Graham of the home; sons, Lance Matthew Graham and Landon Marcus Graham, both of Marion; daughters, Lori Graham Russ of Marion and Stephanie Tarte, and her husband, Kevin of Latta; step-son, John Carpenter of Rockingham, NC; step-daughters, Lynette Parks and her husband, Dan, of Rockingham, NC, Donna Baldwin and her husband, Mike, of Rockingham, NC; brothers, Ronald Graham and his wife, Hazel, of Wilmington, NC, Donald Graham, Sr., and his wife Elizabeth, of Marion, Arnold Graham, Sr., and his wife, Lynn of Marion; sisters, Elaine Rouse and her husband, Jimmy of Marion, and Joyce Graham of Marion; as well as nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
