Looking for parents and siblings of Jacob A (possibly Ayers) Schofield or Scofield. He was born 25 Jan 1825 in Wantage township, Sussex Co. NJ. In 1850 he was residing in Susquehannah Co. PA. (No trace of any Schofield/Scofield families there.) In 1851 he married Nancy Jane Sherwood (parents Isaac Sherwood and Hannah Adams, both also of Sussex Co. NJ.) By 1855 Jacob and Nancy resided in Yates Co. NY and by 1858 they had moved to Waushara Co. Wisconsin where they spent the rest of their lives. Any help would be most appreciated. C S Manske

Hello I do not have any records of your Jacob A. Schofield. My files are of members of the family that moved to Canada in 1760 from CT. The family originally came from England in 1660 (Arthur Scovel, original spelling of the family name, one of two brothers) and settled firstly in MA then went to CT settling in the New London Area. With the removal of the French in Nova Scotia my branch of the family then migrated to Nova Scotia in 1760 to take up the lands vacated by the French. Sorry I could not be of greater help. This family populated the east coast of Canada and the USA during the past 350 years so you will be running into many family members with variations of the family name spelling from the original Scovel, Scoville then Schofield , Scofield all names having a similar sound but the spelling jumps all over the map depending on the education level of the scribe who created the census/marriage/death and other records. Have fun in sorting out the family records.
