Hi fellow listers, Whereas virus alerts are not normally sent to the Lists, as List Admin I've been made aware of a nasty virus which has affected some people who sub to other Rootsweb Lists (and which a friend received from her sister) and due to it's difficult nature has proved hard to detect/remove. The a/v filters at Rootsweb should prevent the virus, which has various names although most commonly known as MTX,(also known as: W95.Oisdbo,W95.MTX.dr,W95.MTX(.dll)from reaching any subscriber. You may, however, receive it from elsewhere and be unaware of what it is. To help anyone affected or worried about this I have detailed information and cleaning instructions obtained from the Symantec anti-virus website database, and if you would like a copy please contact me offlist at [email protected] and I'll forward them straight away. I shall also upload them to a webpage over the weekend in case someone needs them urgently whilst I'm not about. To view them please go to: http://members.nbci.com/Anne_Nichols/mtxclean.htm -- Cheers, Anne ICQ# 32010967 (nickie) mailto:[email protected] Rootsweb ListOwner: Docwra, Dockery, Garton, Hampson and Schofield still hunting Nichols, Martin, Fletcher, Ford, Chandler

Sorry found the rest of the letter 16 Roll (Rolf?) Street Deptfords London Wm Schofield Dear Sir In answer to your request I am sending a small account of my wife's family. I am thoroughly aware that there are very large sums of money laying in chancery for the Schofield's families, my object of calling on you last summer was to ge any particulars from you so as to make inquiries at Somerset House London on your behalf. From the following list (sent just before) you will see the James you refer to, is the brother of Samueld Schofield my wife's Grandfather, Thanking you if you intend to reply do so at your earliest, as I am shortly removing, and in my next letter will give you the change of residence. M E. Schofield J Meads There is no date, my great grandmother died in 1940, so it was sent before that. I have probably given you a headache to solve Regards Colleen

Hi everyone, I received this recently and felt it was worth passing onto the list as a timely reminder to name those photos before it's too late. With many thanks to Diane on the Hampson list for sending it to me. The Strangers In The Box Come, look with me inside this drawer, In this box I've often seen, All the pictures, black and white, faces proud, still and serene. I wish I knew the people, these strangers in the box, Their names and all their memories, are lost amongst the socks. I wonder what their lives were like. How did they spend their days? What about their special times, I'll never know their ways. If only someone had taken time, To tell who, what and when, These faces of my heritage would come to life again. Could this become the fate of the pictures we take today? The faces and the memories, some day to be tossed away. Make time to save your pictures, seize the opportunity when it knocks, Or someday you and yours could be, The Strangers In The Box. -- Cheers, Anne ICQ# 32010967 (nickie) mailto:[email protected] Rootsweb ListOwner: Docwra, Dockery, Garton, Hampson and Schofield still hunting Nichols, Martin, Fletcher, Ford, Chandler
Hi. I have connections to Schofields through my father. His mother was Annie SCHOFIELD of Lindley, she died about 1928 and I never knew her. The information I have is that she was born 1890 daughter of John born Longwood about 1868. Annie's siblings were Joe born 1888, Beattie, Albert died WW1, Harold, Gertrude, Lennard, and Benjamin. John was the son of Ben SCHOFIELD BORN 1841 in Longwood 2nd wife Mary Ann, siblings Fred, and Annie. Ben was a Woollen Card Fetter.. John was a woollen spinner. I don't have any further information at the moment. Jean in s. Australia.

Hi Melissa, Tuesday, August 22, 2000, 3:32:44 AM, you wrote: Fac> I was told that the Scofield name originally came from England and the name Fac> was Schofield then. This is true, Cottle's Surnames gives the meaning as *dweller in a hut by a field*, and says that it is most common in West Yorkshire and Lancashire. There are several variations, Scofield, Scofield, Scholefield and Scholfield being some of them. -- Cheers, Anne ICQ# 32010967 (nickie) mailto:[email protected] Rootsweb ListOwner: Docwra, Dockery, Garton, Hampson and Schofield

I need help finding this person: Ernest William Schofield, Jr. b. New York, approx. Oct 15, 1942 He may have been in San Jose, CA at one time and also in the Navy. His mother may have been born in Loma (?) NY. I have a very close friend, Richard, who is trying to find this man. It is his father. Richard's mother, Tena, died on the 19th and Richard would really like to find his father. He had been looking for him with no luck and now especially would like to find him. There are no expectations, only a hope to find him. Tena would have been Ernest's girlfriend or wife. Her funeral is going to be Saturday, the 22nd. Thanks for any help that you can give me. I have a Mary Emma Schofield who came to the states in 1898 with her husband James Mitchell and her family by her previous marriage to John Coupe. In 1886 she was living at 11 Charlotte St, Little Horton from the birth certificate of James Coupe (Mitchell) . James Coupe (Mitchell) graduated from the Thornton Lane Boarding School, Bradford in March 1898. There has been no family recognition of John Coupe and James Mitchell was always considered the father of the family. I have found an obituary of her first child Emmanuel Coupe (d 1884) - Other children ( from Little Horton are William, (b1882) Thomas Anthony (b1890) and Florence (b1897) - I do not know the father of the last two children. Mary Emma was the daughter of Emmanuel Schofield (b1836 East Bierly) and Nancy Hall (b 1836 Pudsey) and married April 11, 1858 in Calverly I'm trying to find information of the marriage of Mary Emma Schofield and John Coupe or James Mitchell as well as tracing the lines backward. Is there anyone who recognizes any part of this story or can EASILY check marriage certificates certificates, I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance Tom MItchell [email protected]
